Default Gothic (1986) (Collector's Edition)

Bloody Disgusting breaks the news:

http://bloody-disgusting.com/home-vi...ary-exclusive/

Quote:
From the Vestron Video Collector’s Series, the horror classic Gothic will arrive for the first time on limited edition Blu-ray on January 30, 2018, from Lionsgate, Bloody Disgusting exclusively learned.

Starring Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne (2009, Best Actor, In Treatment), Julian Sands, and Natasha Richardson, and from legendary director Ken Russell (Lair of the White Worm), Gothic is the fictional retelling of the night Mary Shelley developed the story of Frankenstein.

While under the influence of experimental substances, she and a group of friends experience terrifying visions that bend reality into her horrific tale.

The Gothic limited edition Blu-ray is packed with all-new special features, including audio commentaries, isolated score selections, interviews with the cast and crew, and more, and will be available for the suggested retail price of $39.97.

“Five famous friends spend a hallucinogenic evening confronting their fears in a frenzy of shocking lunacy and horrifying visions in this fictional tale, which tells the story of Mary Shelley’s conception of Frankenstein on one debauched night in Lord Byron’s home.“

BLU-RAY SPECIAL FEATURES

- Audio Commentary with Lisi Russell and Film Historian Matthew Melia
- Isolated Score Selections and Audio Interview with Composer Thomas Dolby
- “The Soul of Shelley” Featurette with Actor Julian Sands
- “Fear Itself” Featurette with Screenwriter Stephen Volk
- “One Rainy Night” Featurette with Director of Photography Mike Southon

That's the one I wish they had chosen to go with first, but you won't hear me complaining.

Warner owns it and it won't see the light of day anytime soon unless they let another company release it.

I remember Mark Kermode (BBC's movie critic) doing a write-in feature on his show where listeners were supposed to list a movie's cast and instead of the old "FEATURING" or "INTRODUCING" for one cast member they'd use "BUT" on one cast member to point out someone terrible that hurt the movie single-handedly, especially if the rest of the cast was good. Julian Sands was his example of an actor/actress that makes the most negative impact on any movie he's in.

That's my lame story! I know NOTHING about this movie, just seeing Julian Sands' name makes me snicker. I think he was his most-hated actor outside of Danny Dyer.

I've only seen The Devils, Crimes of Passion and Altered States for Ken Russell. I really like The Devils and Altered States, but can take or leave Crimes of Passion. How's this one? What does it compare to?

It's a lovely day when I find out my Ken Russell collection will be growing. Gothic is far from a favorite, but it's still entertaining.

Why would they go with a title they don't own?

Three points;
- I think Julian Sands was marvelous in the first 2 "Warlock" films.
- Check out Ken's "Lair of the White Worm" a bit campy but a lot of fun, and
- I love "Gothic". I can finally retire my dvd!

Funny, just yesterday I was looking at my DVD on the shelf and thinking if I would upgrade it to Blu-ray if it would be released.
I think I probably will.

Well, I am a fan of Ken Russel. I loved Lair Of the White Worm. My complaint on that one is the transfer looks a tad better then DVD. Hardly an upgrade. So I'm hoping this will look good. So far Vestron has been here and there with PQ. But I like Most the actors in it a lot so this will be a nice addition for me anyways.

Didn't know that. Sorry.

I just meant if I could choose any Russell, that would probably it. My knowledge of all these licensing issues is obviously close to nil.
