Warner Bros Batman Ninja (2018) - May 08 2018

Quote:
Prepare to witness the Dark Knight, alongside many of his most famed allies and infamous foes, in an eye-popping anime display you’ve never seen before when Warner Bros. Japan, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment present Batman Ninja. The all-new, feature-length animated film arrives on Digital starting April 24, 2018, and Blu-ray Steelbook ($29.98 SRP), Blu-ray Combo Pack ($24.98 SRP) and DVD ($19.98 SRP) on May 8, 2018. Order due date is April 3, 2018.

The film will be available in 4K UHD for Digital only in a release planned for Summer 2018.

Batman Ninja is rated PG-13 for sequences of violence and action, and for some suggestive material.

Batman Ninja takes a journey across the ages as Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine transports many of Batman’s worst enemies to feudal Japan – along with the Dark Knight and a few of his allies. The villains take over the forms of the feudal lords that rule the divided land, with the Joker taking the lead among the warring factions. As his traditional high-tech weaponry is exhausted almost immediately, Batman must rely on his intellect and his allies – including Catwoman and the extended Bat-family – to restore order to the land, and return to present-day Gotham City.

Batman Ninja Enhanced Content

-“East / West Batman” (Featurette) – Batman meets the anime medium, as this documentary looks into some of the Western tropes and archetypes, meshed into the world of feudal Japan. East meets West, swords, samurai and giant robots, all playing into the clash between Batman and his Rogues gallery.

-“Batman: Made in Japan” (Featurette) – To make a special film about Batman requires just the right artist to bring the mix of style and energy that is unmistakably anime. The filmmakers discuss the Japanese character models, influences and design that create a fusion experience into this hyper real world.

-“New York Comic Con Presents Batman Ninja” – Meet the talented filmmakers behind Batman Ninja as they discuss their inspirations and challenges in bringing an anime version of Batman to life during a panel discussion unveiling Batman Ninja during New York Comic Con 2017.

Honestly...

This looks amazing.

And the animation looks several orders of magnitude better than anything the DCAU has given us, lately.

I'm sold. Bring on a U.S. Steelbook, and it'll be a Day-1.

I hate CG anime. Trying to replicate 2D animation in a 3D space rarely works unless you spend a lot of time and money, and if there's one thing I know about the anime industry, it's that they don't have a lot of time or money.

It looks better than Berserk, but that's not saying much.

Wow, this is frankly the most exciting Bat-movie trailer in recent times.

Yeah, this looks awesome. Only issue is, I can't imagine how it'll play with English dubbing. It's just so Japanese in tone and style, that hearing it with English voices will be odd. I mean, the same thing happens with lots of anime too.

I do that blasphemous thing of watching what little anime I'm interested in with the English dub, even if Japanese is available. So if they do that here then I'll be fine (although I do hope there's a Japanese audio track for those who may want it).

As much as I appreciate the original language tracks, with first-time views of the anime I've been getting into, I find myself needing to use the English dub; so that I can truly take in and enjoy all the details on each frame, as it's handcrafted rather than just shot. However, with my re-watches, I then go to the original language track, as I feel once I've truly absorbed the content, it deserves to be seen the way it was made.

Yup, that's a big reason for me as well.

I'm assuming we'll get a Japanese audio option on the blu-ray, right? Not sure if this would get a theater release anywhere in the USA but I'd only go if it were the original Japanese. As usual, the Japanese voice work in this sounds outstanding.

Yeah, I can't imagine it not including the JP track too on Blu-ray.

You know it is interesting (Well, maybe just for me ) when you talk about your viewing preferences. My Japanese girlfriend in high school and I would go to the movies every weekend and we'd watch it twice. The first time she'd watch with the subtitles and then in English. Then she'd tell me where things were lost in the translation. So I might give this a shot before I watch it with any subtitles or voice over. I definitely agree that a bad voice over can ruin a movie.

I think this looks visually great, but I agree about the CG animation. Just looks so robotic and lifeless compared to the artistry of hand drawn animation.

Still, this looks great! Definitely a very welcome change from the DCAU movies.

When I first heard about this, I thought it sounded stupid. Count me as a believer now.
