Default MediEvil Remake (2018)

Quote:
That’s another PlayStation Experience in the books! And we’ve been holding onto some especially exciting news. Hot on the heels of this year’s smash hit Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, we’re making another PlayStation fan dream come true: a proper, PS4-grade resurrection of the original MediEvil just in time for the game’s 20th anniversary.

If you’re not familiar with the MediEvil series, it’s a colorful action-adventure game originally released in 1998 for the original PlayStation system. As the resurrected Sir Daniel Fortesque, players defend Gallowmere from the evil forces of Zarok, a sorcerer with the power to control the dead.

The game is noteworthy for its unique horror-comedy tone and its early contributions to the world of 3D gaming. It’s still a fan favorite, and I’m proud we can resurrect Sir Daniel once again.

You both were within 1 minute of posting the new thread. Very close.

Medieval on the PS1 demo disc was one of the first games I experienced on PS1 and it was very memorable. Looking forward to more info on this as it nears the release date. Thanks for posting the news.

I never had a PS1, so I get excited when they revive classic games lol. Never played MediEvil, but I've heard it's actually supposed to be a hard game.

It has just the right amount of challenge to it, but the story was great. I don't remember part 2 but I have played part 1 at least half a dozen times.

Had a lot of fun with MediEvil on the original PlayStation, I loved it so much I even got the strategy guide for it. It's one of the few PS1 games that held its value, it consistently sells close to full price.

I beat the original many years ago, so i'm really looking forward to this remaster.

...please make a third installment, Sony. Make one that's better than the first sequel.

Hmmm, Maybe I was expecting too much but I'm not all that wowed by this. When I first saw the Crash and Spyro remakes I was like "WOW!" But this just looks kind of meh to me.

To each their own, but I don't really see how. It's the exact same thing as both of those. Fully remade graphics in 4k.

This.

I'm really diggin' this recent trend of classic PS1 titles getting faithfully recreated. May it continue forever!

And not to forget PS2 gems like SoTC too

The update in this remaster looks amazing. Makes me think just how far Square Enix will have to push FF7 remake to satisfy fans though and remove their gripe over the game being split up into multiple parts.

Whilst i don't mind 2, 3 or even 4 chapter games. Unless SE manages to make them feel "whole", then fans will get severely cheesed off and revolt. FF7 after all was never played in chunks as separet games essentially on original release. It flowed like one long story.

SE also have the poor taste of FF XIII hanging in some fans mouths and to an extent even from PS2 with the amazing (IMO) FFX and the "WTF were they thinking" FFX-2 sequel with girl band Yuna and Co. Don't think i even finished the game with how bad i felt they continued the story. I like to consider FFX a stand alone one and done masterpiece.

Even games that have had a remake are almost wholly original a la Tomb Raider but don't carry the weigbt of expectations FF7 does in regards to what fans consider a 'sacred story' that MUST contain X, Y & Z. For TR, it was Lara Croft, her as an exploring "tomb raider" and a loose connection to her British backstory as it was established. FF7 is so much more involved for fans in terms of details.

Sorry for slightly OT rant but kinda offshooting from the comment above.

Kinda weird/unfortunate that MediEvil 2 isn't included. With remasters and remakes they *usually release a few together as a collection. I wonder why this gets a solitary release.

Anyways, I hope a Syphon Filter trilogy remake is next lol.

If only SE was following this approach with FF7.

My thoughts too. I'd like an open world Syphon Filter game with Gabe Logan and the original voice actor and music composer. Maybe on PS5 it'll happen.

But MediEvil looks promising and faithful to the original PS1 game. Part 2 would be cool. It's possible if this does well enough, since they'll have a lot of the stuff already built and set up.
