I recently redeemed an iTunes code for Django Unchained. It redeemed as the Anchor Bay/Starz release from 2013, not the Lionsgate release from 2017. The Lionsgate release is the only one the is currently avialable in the iTunes store even though I successfully redeemed the code for the Anchor Bay/Starz release. I know that this movie is on sale in iTunes right now for $6.99 but I bought a code instead because it was cheaper than buying directly from iTunes but it did not redeem as the Lionsgate release. Besides the Up Next section in the home screen in my Apple TV 4k, giving me an error loading content message and not recognizing it as purchased after clicking the movie, is there any difference between the Lionsgate release and the Anchor Bay/Starz release?

The only difference is that the Lionsgate version has the better video codec. Lionsgate bought Anchor Bay last year.
Do not buy or redeemable older movies/tv show codes that were released at least 3 years ago. There is a good chance that they won't redeem, have issues or that another movie studio redeemed rights for the movie and that the code won't redeem. Always buy movies and tv shows directly in iTunes when they are on sale. If you buy directly from iTunes, you'll get support on any movie/tv show. Try contacting iTunes support about the redeemable code issue. They won't give you a refund or credit since the movie was not purchased through iTunes. Ask them if they can replace the Anchor Bay version with the Lionsgate version in your account. The worst they can say is no. |

I was able to redeem the code through iTunes, so that's not the issue here. I'm able to play it through the iTunes Movies app and inside the TV app. It just won't play from the Up Next section in the Apple TV's home page as it gives me an error message and then goes to the purchase page for the Lionsgate version of this movie with the option to buy it. So basically I got the inferior version. Also did customers who redeemed the Anchor Bay version or bought the Anchor Bay version through iTunes when the Lionsgate version was not available in the iTunes store get it replaced for free with the Lionsgate version when the Anchor Bay version was not for sale in the iTunes store any longer and the Lionsgate version became available?

Disney was kind enough to replace the Paramount Marvel iTunes Digital Copies with the Disney Marvel iTunes Digital Copies. I don't think Lionsgate is going to be willing to allow that nor do I think Apple would do it either. |
