Every time a new J-Horror (Japanese horror) movie is remade in the US (Ahem, One Missed Call), the reviews seem to skew lower, and it is automatically compared to The Ring and The Grudge. That's all fine and good, but if a J-Horror remake is automatically considered bad just because it was remade in America, then tell me, how am I supposed to find out about the original movie before it gets snatched up and remade?
I guess I am wondering, are there any professional websites that rate, review, preview Japanese/Foreign horror movies? Preferably sites that are written in English (Might be a hard request), and without flashing/mouseover/video banner ads that cause the pages to lock up instantly. If anyone knows of a good site out there, I'm all ears. I'd like to watch the horror movie in its original form before it gets remade and is shunned by critics everywhere. And it's not that I take critics word to be golden, I sincerely just want to watch some GOOD HORROR. I haven't seen a good straight-up horror movie in a very long time, and it's getting frustrating (Granted, "The Mist" was very good, but I wouldn't call it a horror movie). |

I don't know of any profesional sites, but the IMDB message boards are great for finding out anything you need to know. Go to the Horror section and ask a question, you'll get plenty of replies. Hope that helps.

It's too bad it's so hard to find out about movies from other countries. I legitimately want to watch foreign films, but it isn't exactly easy to get into. |

I got a lot of great answers over at IMDB. Basically a full list of links to check out. So far, I'm digging this site right here:
24FRAMESPERSECOND.NET - Asian,World,Cult Horror movie news/reviews It reminds me of a more obscure Cinematical. I prefer Cinematical for mostly American movie blogging, but for sure, 24framesps is going in my bookmarks permanently for cult/international horror blogging. If any of the other links I was recommended turn up something cool, I'll post them, but for the moment, 24fps looks great. Going to take a lot of sifting, but at least it is done for American audiences. |
