Hi guys,
Just setting up a pair of Atmos (front) ceiling speakers with my Yamaha. Is all I need to do connect the dolby atmos speakers to the Front Presence (extra) speaker ports? Under set up there are two patterns... 1 & 2. Pattern 1 has the option to enable front presence speakers but option 2 has the option to enable both front and back presence. Even though I will only be using one pair of speakers (FP), just wondering why Pattern 1 exists in the first place i.e. why not have only Pattern 2 and disable the RP speakers as required? Thanks |

Leave it to the default layout setting. When you go through YPAO/automatic setup, it will automagically figure out what speakers aren't there and disable those outputs.
But, in the manual setup settings, go to the front presence speakers setting, and from there you can select what the front presence speakers are for/how they're mounted. "Dolby Enabled SP" is for Atmos add-on speakers (angled speakers on top of main fronts), the others are wall and ceiling mounted. This is important as YPAO doesn't figure out where your presence speakers are mounted or what they're for. |

ok, I set the Front Presence speakers as ceiling speakers. Ran the test tones to make sure they were working. Put on a DD5.1 movie and enabled Dolby Surround for the upmix... the center and front channels sounded quite subdued and there was a noticeable decrease in volume from them...not sure why??.. When I disabled dolby surround everything was back to normal. Haven't ran YPAO yet as I wanted to test the speakers...would that make a difference? Not sure why Dolby Surround would mess with the dialogue/center channel?

Ok I ran YPAO before going to work.
The system says my center speaker is out of Phase. I checked the wiring and ran it again..still insists it's out of Phase ![]() My center speaker is bi-wired as are my fronts. But it doesn't complain about the fronts.. Haven't had a chance to check the sound quality yet but a bit stumped as to the W1 error message... |

ok - read around the forums and seems that this is a normal issue with the Yamaha sometimes...also my center speaker is larger than my fronts (KEF Q600C vs K300c) so that could be it.
Played some DD5.1 sources upmixed to Atmos - there is an obvious reduction in volume from the fronts/center when I turn on the Dolby Surround option ... without Dolby Surround my reference listening levels are around -28db ...with DS on I have to crank up the volume to sometimes as much as -17db for a similar pre-dolby surround level...anyone else experienced this? cheers |
