i get a sinking sensation that toshiba's going to try and fight this out till the bitter end.

i hope like hell sanity at GE and Viacom prevail over this insanity.

If Toshiba doesn't have the balls to pull the plug on this farce, I do hope someone at GE or Viacom does.

I love the peanut gallery comments:

"For a display company, you'd think they could get their slides to look clearer."

"ahaha that's it? they should've just saved face and not show up. this made them look even more lame"

"So they spent a grand total of 3 minutes talking about hd-dvd? OUCH!!"

Notice the lack of PLAYSTATION 3 in the Sony share of that pie chart.

Ugh. All the bloated egos and delusional posturing going on... methinks I'm not really missing all that much at an event like CES.

...and they left without any Q&A, big shock there. Notice how they talked about the power of the Cell chip? That's the silver bullet that killed their HD-DVD business. How ironic.

Default Blu-ray SALs gaining market share

Engadget has a briefing and pictures of Toshibas CES Press Conference.

In one of the pictures is clearly shows that Toshiba has less than 50% of the HD market share in terms of players. LG seems to be really small im thinking that its 49 HD DVD 48 Blu-ray 3 Dual, meaning blu-ray should have more SALs on the market really soon, if not already.

They really dodged the HD DVD subject and only said that Toshiba has delivered on interactivity and that Q4 sales were the best ever. NO Q & A.

Very disappointing for any HD DVD fan, toshiba only talked about it for about 3-5 minutes. seems like they are giving up. i have a feeling universal has told them that their exclusiveness is over.

Even ignoring PS3, their share in the dedicated player market is down to 49.3%. Since Toshiba is the only manufacturer of HD-DVD hardware, that means Blu-ray has pretty much caught up in that front. (I'm ignoring combos and X360 add-ons for the moment -- they are not significant enough to make a difference.)

Now add the PS3. No wonder Blu-ray is trouncing HD-DVD in sales.

enjoy
