I have yet to see Coco 3D Blu-ray.

As for Blade Runner 2049 3D Blu-ray; I wasn't much impressed visually, and also by not having Dolby Atmos audio.
It is serviceable, no problemo, but for this particular title I prefer the 4K version.

Usually I almost always prefer the 3D version. I'm a 3D addict, I admit that. Not biased, but simple human mistake that is acceptable in our society and I take full responsibility over my eyes.
I am vulnerable, the 3D experience takes over my illumination in the movie world @ home.
In this case here of BR2049, it does not.

I'm very happy that it won two 3D categories, it's fantastic for the people who worked on it.
For my eyes it is less than fantastic.

That, is my honest thought from direct view experience in comparison to other 3D Blu-ray titles from a higher caliber when it comes to that 3D immersive cinema experience.

Congrats to the winners and their awards; no one can take that away from them, and they need all the best encouragement for future improved 3D experience. Because 3D is the future, part of it, and big 3D time too...my sincerest opinion.

Thank you very much for starting this thread...illuminating.

What would you/anyone else go for as their live action 3D movie of last year?

I could not in good conscience give

"BEST 3D MOTION PICTURE LIVE ACTION – BEST STEREOGRAPHY" and
"BEST 2D TO 3D CONVERSION"

to Blade Runner 2049. It wouldn't even make the shortlist.

Off the top of my head, I'd probably give it to Valerian. Kong and Ghost in the Shell are two others I quite liked.

Guardians Of The Galaxy vol 2 was by far the best example of 3D for the year in my book. So much excellent depth with some pop outs and frame breaks. This is what 3D is all about.

I thought it was a foregone conclusion that it’d win. Particularly as James Gunn name checked the award during production!!!

But not to win even one out of the 3 categories...

You're right, it's a 3D theatrical animated film from 2016.
The 3D Blu-ray came later, in 2017.

I don't go to the theater much, I like a good 3D theater.
The AIS votes are from the 3D theater experience.
I did not see Blade Runner 2049 in 3D @ the theater, I've not seen the IMAX 3D screen aspect ratio of it, only the 2D theatrical, widescreen.
@ home yes, the 3D Blu-ray...so it's not the same as what the AIS voters saw.

In that case I cannot comment on the 3D theatrical release. ...Which 3D theater the AIS members went to to give their awards.

Glad the tight rope scene from The Walk won an award because I'm scared of heights and the scenes from up top succeeded in making me grab for a paper bag.

Honestly whoever voted Blade Runner 2049 as the best 3D conversion ........ I really want to know what they were smoking and where I can score some. Literally every movie in my collection is a better conversion and when I saw it i theater, the only purpose the glasses served was to remove the blur. I basically had to wear the glases to watch what was as 2.1D movie at best.

I can understand the award for best conversion as it was probably a very technically difficult movie to convert.

I can also understand the Best Live Action award as it was for a lot of people, one of their favourite films of the year (2D or 3D). Just look at the IMDB rating: https://m.imdb.com/best-of/highest-r...er/rm897987840 and couple that with its metacritic rating: http://www.metacritic.com/feature/best-movies-of-2017 to get a flavour.

The award I’m not having is Best Stereography - the award for the 3D itself. That award should probably have gone to GotG2, IMO.

I have seen way better discs this year than GITS. I have now watched on a projector, a TV and a VR headset to see if I could change my mind. I can’t!

Pretty lame effort, giving everything to Blade Runner and Coco. Did they even watch those movies in 3D? No jury prize awards for foreign features or live action short awards this year either.

Amazon Adventure did have fantastic 3D though, and the "Be Our Guest" scene was wonderful in Beauty and the Beast.
