Default The Muppets Most Wanted. Is the movie any good?

Is the Muppets Most Wanted movie any good for an older fan of the original Muppets to watch?

I didn't like the last previous movie with Jason Segel and Amy Adams

I love Amy Adams, but the movie was a little underwhelming. I enjoyed Most Wanted a lot more, it's good fun and feels like a proper Muppets caper.

I much preferred The Muppets (9/10) to Muppets Most Wanted (6/10) - but it's an okay watch.

Here’s the thread for this. Please don’t make new threads before checking if a film already has one.

I divide the Muppets into 3 sections; the Jim era (everything to 1991), the recovery era (1991 to Very Merry), and the Disney era (Oz to present).

Muppets Most Wanted is okay, but I'm not counting it as one of the Disney era's best offerings. The extended version on the BD is better than the theatrical version, I'll put that upfront. I was really excited after The Muppets, but Most Wanted let me down. It focuses too much on the new characters of Constantine and Dominic and not enough on the rest of the team (at one point other characters even lampshade being left out of the spotlight).

Constantine is internet famous now for the dark side meme. I don't know how much we'll see him in the future, now that Matt Vogel has taken over Kermit.

Advice to Poya. Don't tell me what to do especially to go to some old topic thread that I didn't know about anyway.

Anyways, I've always been curious about the Muppets Most Wanted movie to see if it's decent or not than the last previous new muppets movie.

Thing is I grew up with the original Muppets trilogy the first movie and watched Great Muppet Caper and Muppets Take Manhattan on HBO alot back in the day

As a longtime fan of The Great Muppet Caper and The Muppets Take Manhattan, I'd put Muppets Most Wanted a step below those two, but still a ton of fun. It compares best with Caper in terms of tone.

I think the thing that bugs me the most about the movie is that
[Show spoiler]Walter and Animal are the only ones who knew from the beginning about the switch
, despite it being so obvious. Not even Fozzie gets it until some miraculous product placement helps him out.

Yeah, obvious obliviousness is somewhat of a Muppet style gag, but they could have done better. I know they're semi-retired since Jim and Richard Hunt's deaths, but Rowlf or Scooter could have been used.

It’s a great movie. At first I didn’t know if I liked it as much as the 2011 movie, but it’s grown on me and I think I prefer it to that one.

Definitely worth watching!

What I still love about the original three muppet movies are the celebrity guest cameos back then.

Are there any guest celeb cameos in Most Wanted or do they overdo it?

There's a lot of celebs in MMW, some are semi-starring roles (Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, Ty Burrell) while others are quite brief. Two of my favorite moments are cameo related: one where a celeb is simply in a single shot in a matter-of-fact way, and another where a celeb cameo is through several scenes but the gag is who you find out he's playing.

One of my favorite cameos was actually Annie Sue. She hadn't been seen since the 90s.
