The Best Year in Film History - Blu-ray Forum

Filmspotting put together their top 5 years in film and I thought it could use a little systematizing. So I put together a spreadsheet that started with the years I expected to be in the running for the best year, which then expanded to all years going back to 1930. I rated each film (that I'd seen) and totaled it up weighted towards the top 5. I then gave an extra two points for each year before 2000 and removed two points for each year after 2000 to ameliorate recency bias.

Top 5 Movie Years:

1. 1948
(The Red Shoes, Oliver Twist, Unfaithfully Yours, Germany Year Zero, Bicycle Thieves)

2. 1967
(In the Heat of the Night, Dirty Dozen, Bonnie and Clyde, Cool Hand Luke. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner)

3. 2011
(Tree of Life, Drive, Take Shelter, Midnight in Paris, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)

4. 1973
(The Exorcist, Badlands, Long Goodbye, The Sting, Paper Moon)

5. 2002
(The Pianist, 28 Days Later, Panic Room, Catch Me If You Can, Minority Report)

You can find my spreadsheet on Google Sheets. I've never shared a Google doc before, but I would think you could copy and paste it to plug in your own ratings. Right?
