Toshiba announced an SDTV upconverter using Sony's Cell Broadband Engine. I'm kinda surprised no one did something like that sooner.

Toshiba technically is inside of the Blu-ray player already. They co-developed the Cell Processor inside of the PS3 with Sony and IBM. I'm sure they are already getting a revenue share for every PS3 sold. However, the PS3 is not an exclusive BD Player but the Cell processor probably does some of the decoding.

Ok, still pretty damn impressive, though! I've checked out the current Sharp at Best Buy and it looks like a great player already.

Yeah its pretty good. It doesn't do DTS HD over HDMI tho...which sucks. I think it does everything else over HDMI though. It's only profile 1.0 and those are my only 2 complaints.

Gee, and I heard from the HD DVD side there were going to be no new announced players at CES. Of course that was before Friday...
