Default BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR from Umbrella (double feature with BRIDE) - June 6, 2018

Both theatrical and uncut versions of Bride will be included in the Beyond double feature.

More information coming soon.

UPDATE June 6, 2018

[Show spoiler]

Quote:
Umbrella Entertainment is proud to announce the launch of our curated range of Blu-ray releases: Beyond Genres: Worlds on Film

This series, starting with our June releases of Stuart Gordon and Brian Yuzna’s seminal Re-Animator trilogy (Re-Animator, Bride of Re-Animator and Beyond Re-Animator), and continuing with Gordon’s cult Lovecraftian tale, Dagon in July, will aim to shine a spotlight on films that offer more to their genres than the standard bag of tropes.

Each first-pressing release of the Beyond Genres collection will be packaged in an o-ring slip featuring exclusive artwork and reversible sleeves with poster and production art and will be strictly limited. From trailblazing cult movies previously lost to late-night television and the VHS graveyard to art-house classics that defy the expectations of their genres, the Beyond Genres: Worlds on Film collection will be a worthy addition to the shelves of any cinephile.

Yay and Damn really. Would have been nice to get Beyond by itself, but I guess pickers can't be choosers.

No complaints here, I don't even have Bride on DVD let alone BD!

Even though I already own Arrow's Bride, I sure would like to have Beyond on Blu-ray!

No word yet on whether the 2-disc set of the original features the same two discs from Umbrella's original release, or whether they've acquired the new 4K remaster from the recent US edition.

EDIT: A commenter on the Facebook post has apparently heard that Beyond will be uncut.

Be interesting if Umbrella included the Integral Cut of the first one. I have the Arrow limited edition, so got it already but might be good for people that missed out on it.

Definitely getting the double pack of the sequels.

Umbrella already included the Integral Cut with their original limited edition release four or five years back, then sold it separately for a while as well.

They've confirmed the new edition of the first movie will again feature it on a second disc.

Basically, the two releases on June 6 are as follows:

RE-ANIMATOR COLLECTOR'S EDITION

2 disc set; unrated and integral cuts, plus special features.
Currently unknown whether this is the same 2-disc set they already released, reprinted, or if it's a new edition using the recent Arrow remaster.

BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR & BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR

2 disc set; theatrical and unrated cuts of Bride on disc 1, uncut version of Beyond on disc 2.
They've confirmed this set will also include special features, but whether that's just some of Arrow's Bride stuff is currently unknown. No idea what kind of special features have existed in the past for Beyond, actually - I think the US DVD may have had a commentary?

I'm real anxious to know about the audio track for Bride, whether it will be mono (like Arrow's) or actual 2 channel stereo.

US DVD was the only cut version, all others were uncut. The Spanish and UK versions also had the commentary so I at least we know it's available and correctly synced for the uncut print.

While we're on the subject of Yuzna flicks, wouldn't it be nice if Umbrella picked up Return of the Living Dead III? As well as the first two, although I probably would only bother with the second one if it was a double feature with one of the others.

The second one is off the table for them - Warner Bros. owns it, so the most we can hope for really is a region free Warner Archive release someday.

The UK releases of Return 1 and 3 are great, though - highly recommended.

Ah didn't realize there was a UK release of III. I really should get that release of the first one too, especially since it has that mono track with the original music and I've only ever watched it on DVD with the altered music.

If you're region free the US Scream Factory release also has basically the same audio track.

The US version overall is the superior release, with a whole bunch of extra special features and a slightly better transfer.

That being said, the UK version is certainly no slouch, and the mono audio track actually features all the original songs - pretty sure Scream weren't able to license one of the songs for their edition.

The UK edition has the song Dead Beat Dance by The Damned in it, along with the memorable laugh which opens the scene. It's the only HD version which contains the entirely unaltered version of the soundtrack.

Well that seals it, UK version it is!

Anyway I derailed this one so I'd better get it back on track Other thing I'm wondering is whether this edition of the first Re-Animator is just a repress of the old 2-disc or if it will feature a new transfer, since there's been at least one 4K scan done since. Would definitely consider double-dipping for that.

Looks like Vestron's beating Umbrella to the punch when it comes to detailing their release:
