On Twitter, Rogue One and Book of Eli screenwriter Gary Whitta just dropped a huge bombshell: He’s working with Jonathan Betuel, the writer of The Last Starfighter, to finally try and reboot it for the big screen. We reached out to learn more, and Whitta told us why now is the perfect time to bring it back.

With Gary Whitta and Jonathan Betuel at the helm of this remake it most definitely is in good hands.

The fact that the same two people replied to the duplicate threads saying almost the same thing in both really threw me for a loop.

Ernest Kline better hope they fast track the movie adaptation of his second book Armada then. If this makes it out first people will realize it's just a knockoff.

Considering how gaming has evolved since the original, this is one property that is ripe for a remake.

Count me in for being on board for this. I love the original, it was a favorite as a kid. I'm normally not for remakes or reboots but this would be a good property to work with. Maybe see a better transfer on bluray for the original too
