United Kingdom Cannibal Ferox (1981) Limited Edition -- Shameless -- July 30th 2018

Quote:
Nearly a decade after initiating the genre with Man From Deep River, director Umberto Lenzi gives the final word on the Italian gut-muncher with his ferocious flesh-feasting masterpiece Cannibal Ferox.

To lay to rest the ‘myth’ of tribal cannibalism, PhD student Gloria (Lorraine De Selle) journeys to the Amazon jungle but things soon go awry when her party encounters sadistic cocaine cowboy Mike (Giovanni Lombardo Radice). Mike is on the run from the hungry locals but all is not what it seems - as the travellers venture into the heart of darkness, they soon discover what it means to be hunted. Cannibal Ferox questions the nature of human atrocity, pulling no punches with its visceral depictions of murder, cannibalism and torture.

Sink your teeth into one of Italian cinema’s most shocking and controversial films, making its UK Blu-ray debut with this tantalising new edition from Shameless.

*Special features*
- UK Blu-ray debut
- Limited numbered edition
- A Taste of the Jungle: an interview with director Umberto Lenzi
- Hell in the Jungle: an interview with Giovanni Lombardo Radice
- Restoration Process for Cannibal Ferox
- Cannibal and Carpet Fitters - a short film from 2015
- Lenzi Photo Gallery

*Specs*
- Duration: 92m 54s
- Resolution: 1080p
- Original aspect ratio: 1.85:1
- Audio: dual mono / LPCM.
Note that the film received compulsory BBFC cuts of 1 min 55 secs to scenes of animal cruelty.

I've got the US Grindhouse disc and it's a crackin' good edition, but I'll be tempted to double-tipped if this has some juicy extras.
In fairness to the BBFC the version submitted by Vipco was already pre-cut by about 6 minutes with the BBFC only ordering a further 6 seconds removed. I guess we'll never know exactly what they would have had removed if it were submitted uncut back in 2000.

Even more so than Mountain of the Cannibal God this seems like an odd choice for a UK release as unlike say Man From Deep River and Cannibal Holocaust it's neither a particularity good, interesting nor fun film that will be further spoiled by the removal of the (presumably) animal violence.

Cannibal Ferox is better than Man From Deep River.

Come at me.

I can’t see how the Grindhouse disc can be bettered with it’s uncut status, transfer and extras so I shall be sticking with that but for UK buyers who are yet unable to play region A BDs this could be a viable option as long as it’s only animal cruelty that is cut which I’m sure it will be.

Lol yep. I’m surprised they still exist in this competitive blu ray era. Still operating like a DVD company from 2006. Ugly box art and rubbish encodes.

As much as I hate Shameless, just wish I knew how Shamless is able to stay in business. Yeah, it's such a shame that these losers have a good catalogue.

To be fair they do have some bloody good films out on DVD.

BD is a bit iffy though.

A catalogue of around 35 mostly worthy to very good titles on DVD coupled with regular discount sales and a loyal fanbase.

Shame they've not really cut it regarding blu-ray releases but despite the numbered spines no ones forcing anyone to buy them.

According to Melon Farmers this movie was coming from Argent. Not heard of them though so perhaps related to Shameless.
The whole point of trashy movies like these is the sensationalist side of things so buying cut versions seems pointless.
You'd be better off using the funds to get a region free Bluray mod

Imports are not really that expensive if you order from the right places.
Wow HD seem to be the cheapest at the moment.
The Ferox Blu is £24 but some labels including Grindhouse are expensive anyway. If Amazon are to be believed the Ferox Blu is OOP anyway.
Mainstream Hollywood titles can be purchased for peanuts, specially if they are not brand new titles.
And the UK is badly supported by some studios. Look to Amazon Germany or often Amazon Italy where mainstream titles can often be purchased cheaper than buying the UK version

Argent is the parent company and Shameless is one of its imprints. Argent tackle more highbrow Italian titles like Suspiria and Shameless tackle Ferox, New York Ripper etc.

As I mentioned above , it does look like the Ferox Bluray is OOP with neither Wow or Amazon having any stock which isn't a good sign.

With Cannibal Ferox and Mountain of the Cannibal Gold coming from Shameless they really are living up to their name with releasing these types of movies cut to pieces.

Just what Vipco used to do but I only bought those as it was much much harder to find these films back in the 90’s and early naughties and seeing them at all was better than nothing. Then I discovered the internet and imports
