Default Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - Pre-order

I was looking on the JB AU site today and while there isn't a release date yet I noticed that along with the usual regular BD, 3D, and 4K versions they have a 4K steelbook for pre-order.

It's a pity it doesn't seem like there's a 3D steelbook available as well, but I know some will be pleased to be able to order the 4K steel locally.

Art's been uploaded for the other versions on JB's site as well:

From my theatre experience if your 3d ready, that is the way to go with this one.

I do wonder if the blu-ray release will be 2.35:1 like the normal cinema release or 1.89:1 like the imax release.

I get both 3D and 4K for MCU releases due to the IMAX ratio only being on the 3D version, but it'll be interesting to see what they do for this release when it comes to that since the US doesn't get 3D any more. Makes me wonder if they'll do the open ratio for the 4K as well because that would be cool even though I'd still buy the 3D version as well anyway.

But whatever I have to buy to get the IMAX ratio I'll do so because it looks truly fantastic there. I'm seeing it again this weekend in IMAX.

I like 4k, but haven't taken the plunge and probably won't for several more years (I plan on keeping my current set for a long while yet and am very happy with it still). I do wish they did 4k/3d combo packs, or even better added a 4k 3d format.

This is the first time it isn't just select scenes with the MCU though. Especially with GOTG2 I don't think the changing aspect really word work in 2d as it has the image breaking out of the black borders and then into the changed aspect ratio, which works well in 3d, but in 2d not so much for myself. But as this is the whole film being in an expanded ratio I suspect it will be available but maybe as a double dip (think star trek into darkness).

With that said I believe the fourth resident evil was also opened up like that for imax, but that version never appeared for home video. Same with Blade Runner 2049. We shall see though, it would be interesting to know which version the cinematographer prefers.

I'm not sure how accurate Sanity are but checking their website shows a 15/08 release date for this. Sounds about right with the US digital due at the end of July, so hopefully this is the case.

Fingers crossed we get a more official announcement in the next fortnight since we haven't had much yet. I just really wanna know what the steelbook looks like because if it's the same as the US one then I'm not that keen. Thanos on the front instead of the 'A' like previous releases is baffling to me quite frankly.

Sanity's site says it will have a poster... No clue what it looks like though.

The NZ JB site has updated with the movie now available for pre-order, which is pretty early for them based on previous MCU releases. And we're getting the 4K steel here in NZ as well which is awesome: https://www.jbhifi.co.nz/action/aven...elbook/350765/

15/08 release date confirmed there too, now if we could just get confirmed art work. They sure are taking their time with the official announcement.

Steelbook art has been uploaded on JB's site and it's the same as the (ugly) US Best Buy one.

I also noticed there's no mention of the 10 Year Bonus disc they're getting in the US so if you're buying locally keep an eye on that.

Yeah, it's not the best artwork. Plus the price is putting me off.

I see it says 4K Ultra HD/ 2 Blu-ray

I don't think there's ever been a separate special feature disc in a JB Marvel steelbook before? Could possibly be the disc you mentioned.

( I actually kinda like the artwork.. haha.)

I just updated the OP with the covers for the other versions.

Yeah it's hard to say if the 2 BD indicates the 2D copy plus the bonus disc or not. I imagine if it did then JB would advertise that because it's a big advantage over the regular versions if it was only included with the steel.

I'll be getting the US 4K version anyway which seems to have the bonus disc confirmed so I'm not too worried, but I hope we do get it locally as well.

And I'm glad you like the art for the steel, it's just bugging me they're not following through with the 'A' logo from the previous two Avengers steels.

ETA: I just looked on the NZ site and it looks like the regular and steelbook 4K are both the same price at $49. Seems ridiculously steep for the regular 4K being that it's been priced the same as the 3D in the past for MCU releases ($39).

So, what's the story with this - do JB put them out on Monday and if so, is it after a specific time? Also, Looks like it's had a more grounded price drop over all the releases.

Majority of the time JB will receive their stock Friday and have a strict embargo not to put it out till Monday (despite offical release dates usually being Wednesday) - in some rare cases a major retailer like BIG W might break the embargo and release on the weekend before the Monday and JB will follow suit and put it out early. But barring Big W or someone like that breaking embargo JB will be put it out Monday - what time will depend how quickly the inventory staff at your particular JB are getting it out onto shop floor. I've never been in on a Monday at 9am so I can't say if they ever put it out before shop opens but I've always found by 11am (when I usually can get there on a work break) they nearly always have new releases out for sale.

Hopefully someone's buying the 3D so we can confirm IMAX ratio or not.

You can also just ask. In the past, when I haven’t seen a title on the shelf but know it should be there, I just ask and they’ll go grab me one from the back.
