Default How bad would it be for a Blu-Ray to have maker on the label?

Hello, I noticed that some used Wii U and PS3 games I own have marker on their labels. Would this be likely to cause any major damage? I ask here, because all of my search results from google seem to only refer to DVDs and CDs and would like to know if this could also be an issue with Blu-Ray. Thanks to those who may give answers.

Marker, as in Sharpie? None whatsoever. Physical labels or stickers can cause issues as they can deteriorate and fall off but marker pen won't do anything. You can wipe it off with the right stuff, but if it's a silver disc and you use certain chemicals it can melt the disc. So I'd leave it alone.

Thanks, I asked because I heard that marker is potentially dangerous for CDs and hear mixed things for DVD. Good 'ol gamestop sold me a WiiU disc (which are basically just modified blu-rays) with some shapie on the front

I wouldn't worry about it, consider that blank CDs, DVDs and BDs usually have us lot writing on them without any issues. It shouldn't be a problem.

I have one or two used Blu-Rays that have been written on with a marker. I think they work fine. For all discs, I figure the data layers should be well protected, it's just the surface being impacted.

There was an instance where my mom put a name sticker on a CD of mine. I went to pull it off, and it ripped off a big chunk of the CD's printed label and the silvery stuff beneath. It was totally unplayable at that point. Was kidna let down, seeing as this was Chumbawamba's Tubthumping album, but it was an opportunity to grab the superior Japanese import with the uncensored filler and bonus tracks. So, it got knocked down, I just bought it up again.

I don't think DVDs and BDs are quite that fragile though, and markers shouldn't cause the same issues. But definitely be careful with stickers and labels and such.
