But for how much and when? They already charge a small fortune for the 20Gb drive, so this one is likely to cost over £100 Nice! MS are miking their customers dry. You buy the Core, then pay £70 for the hard drive, or you buy the premium with it, then you buy the HD-DVD add on, now yet another "upgrade", a larger hard drive - proprietary of course, unlike Sony's standard drive system. Is it me, or do I get the distinct feeling that the Xbox360 is a work in progress? The worlds first DIY games console? So, all we need now is the mythical HDMI adaptor and ultimately the completely revamped console that contains all the above; making the existing model redundant. Hmm, actually that's what MS already do with Windows and all their software isn't it ![]() |

proprietary? um, no
its a normal sata 2.5" laptop hdd inside that casing, quite simple to upgrade it yourself if you're willing to open its box. but instead of the hassles of opening the custom hdd box, you can just use a usb drive or any usb 2.0 hdd enclosure for either sata or ide drives. people have been doing it since launch. and if there are morons willing to pay ms a premium for something like this, i don't see why not. its their money. |

Then why are they bothering to release a branded one? And why package it in a "box" in the first place? Come on, the average user isn't going to know they can swap it for a standard drive, whereas the PS3 drive just slots into its housing internally. Sony are not releasing a branded version - they are happy for consumers to do their own thing.

100 Gb hard drive option?!?!?
Excellent choice.... HOWEVER, where is the internal HD-DVD drive version? Seems to be biggest hurdle preventing me from getting an Xbox 360 next year. |
