Hello,
Just joined Blu-Ray... Now's the time for me to purchase a few needed electronics. I recently just started collecting a lot of my favorite movies, I'm in the process of purchasing a new TV & a blu-ray player. Just have a few Scenarios & Questions All I hear is great things about the PS3 as a Blu-Ray Player, i'm mainly looking for just a blu-ray player, but I'm a gamer and playing ps3 games would be a plus. I do have the 360 which is my main gaming console. PS3 mainly for blu-ray and some games. Or should I look towards the Standalone? Just seems like my money would be well spent on the ps3. TV Question k, I'm thinking i will most likely sit between 5.5 -7.5ft from the TV. I have read the min/max viewing distance for both the 40" and 46", both are in my viewing range.. And this TV is going in my Bedroom. Budget $2500 #1 Samsung LN-T4071F 40" HDTV $1493.88 @amazon 40GB PS3 $399.99 @amazon Blu-ray Movies Want a lot of Movies Accessories/extra's $50 Total $1943.87 extra for Movies $556.13 #2 Samsung LN-T4671F 46" HDTV $2163.86 @amazon $336.14 I won't have enough cash for ps3 and movies, if I did go with #2, I eventually would be able to purchase the ps3 and movies, but it could take me a couple months to be able to spend the extra money. Sorry if this is confusing, but i'm so undecided on what to do. This will be my first hdtv. Last edited by Murph934; 01-09-2008 at 07:42 AM. |

Welcome!
It looks like you really want a Samsung with the 120Hz option. Based on the two scenarios I would go with the first one, This way you can start enjoying all the benefits. It would suck to have to wait to enjoy HD content and the slightly larger screen will probably not make much of a difference. I would recommend the blu-ray controller for the PS3: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PlayStation-Blu-ray-Disc-Remote/dp/B000M17AVO/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1199869076&s r=8-2. If you do not have the HDMI cables yet many here recommend Monoprice.com, but I am sure many on Amazon work well too, although Monster cables tend to be overpriced. However, I would recommend going with ones that have gold plating. Which movies do you have so far, and which are you looking to get? Check back on the forums frequently to find out about the latest deals and BOGOs. Last edited by cartier; 01-09-2008 at 08:04 AM. |

I would say Option 1 as well. I was in the same predicament as you, and after talking it through with my wife, we had decided on something similar to Option 1 (40" Sony Bravia, instead of Samsung). Eventually, the bigger TV will come, but for now, having a hi-def game console and blu-ray player, which all output in 1080p, is immediately satisfying!
