Default The fight to stay "caught up"

On days like yesterday when there are so many good new releases on BD I am finding it difficult to stay caught up on my BD buying. I have a little over 30 BDs and there are still probably no less than 10 that I still want that are already out and then the future release schedule is packed wiht titles.

Not to mention as soon as Universal and Paramount/DreamWorks go BD then it's going to be insane with hi-def titles. Either way I like it.

There's just so many movies still coming out that I want:

Crimson Tide
Master & Commander
We Own the Night
30 Days of Night
Independence Day
Unbreakable
Predator

I need to finish getting all the movies that are already on store shelves so I can be ready the day these hit.

And, like we said back in '99:

Um...you can rent them too, you know.

You're just going to have to re-evaluate which ones are the ones you want now and wait for the other ones to either drop in price, buy used, or wait for BOGO.

Yeah, it is hard to keep up sometimes. You just have to pick which ones you really want and put the ones you can wait on to the side.

Yeah, but if you know you want them in your library, renting them just throws money down the john.

Point was, back in '99, when even Blockbuster didn't rent DVD's, fans thought they had to rush out and BUY every copy of every movie they hadn't seen in theaters...
(Unless you'd found this neato "Netflix" thing on the web, that would let you rent one for a week at $8.)

And then the forums would be crammed with posts about "I just bought Twister for $39--I haven't seen it, is it any good?"
And then, when it wasn't, Babbage's used-game stores everywhere would be crammed full of used copies of Twister for $15...Oh, but wait, that was the cool thing about buying every disk back then, you see, there was the RESALE VALUE!!

I can understand that not everyone today has Netflix, and that not everybody's Blockbuster has been stocking every Blu title, even though they were the first ones to switch--
But guys...We're not inventing DVD's for the second time--You should know how all this stuff works by now, ten years later. You only have to buy the titles you KNOW you want to see.
The "loyalty" wars are over, and it doesn't have to be some "Just like the old days" nostalgia-adrenaline if it's sapping your wallets dry.

My Blockbuster here doesn't even have Blu. Netflix is gold though
