Default My Hollywood Video slowing customer's transition to HD media.

I have the MVP membership at Hollywood video where I pay 25 dollars a month and I get to keep out two movies at a time with no late charges and all that stuff. I've had it for almost a year and when I got a PS3 last spring I started to rent the occasional BD under the membership and it always scanned through fine.

So yesterday I rented "Sunshine" on BD. I was shocked because they don't put out the new releases on HD-DVD or BD until a Thursday or Friday. So I snatched it up and when I took it up to the counter the guy looked surprised and scanned it and then I left. I took his shocked look as nothing important.

So I returned it this morning to exchanged it with the DVD version because someone else in my family wanted to see it and doesn't have a BD player. The girl upfront said "Did you have this on your MVP account?" I said yes. She said I wasn't supposed to because they aren't allowing HD movies to be used on the MVP account anymore. I said "Since when?" She said, "Yesterday."

I asked her how much it was to rent a BD normally? Her reply was 8.50. An HD-DVD costs 5.50. So now I can't rent out a BD without drilling a hole into my wallet and to try out a movie to see if I want to buy it.

Discuss.
