Sony is desperate to make money by releasing as many different steelbooks as possible. Hit while the iron is hot. It is because they already expect a financial loss.

Yes because a company trying to make money is simply absurd. Why can’t Sony operate on lollipops & rainbows like the other companies?!

I'm done with steelbooks from Zavvi. After my last one came out in a thin card sleeve well and truly dented and then I had to pay return postage to get a refund.

What I don’t understand is that Zavvi’s banner clearly states “Preorder on Blu-ray, DVD, 3D, 4K UHD and Steelbook”, yet for the life of me I can’t find a 3D edition on their site. Meanwhile the listing for this Steel claims there are 2 discs...

Poor Zavvi!
Sorry but it's HMV for me!

I’ve returned 2/2 of my last steels and haven’t paid a penny, how are you managing to pay for a return? You do tell them it’s damaged and send photos right?

Hopefully BB receives this artwork. Much better than HMV.
Ideally we would have some glorious source comic artwork, but sadly Marvel/Disney whiffed on that chance many releases ago.

I feel like this is now more common than not (for steelbooks with genuinely new content); it's become the main reason I pre-order. I'd like to think the demand has increased, but more realistically these editions are becoming increasingly 'limited'...

Right. I'm not as concerned with this being sold out, just more surprised when it was just posted for pre-order.

Since this is a Sony release, we'll more likely than not, just get a 4K steelbook along with a 3D regular release in the US; like how they released Spiderman Homecoming.

Just hoping the US steelbook art is as nice as what we're seeing for Italy.

I hope you're right about the 3D - I'm not even sure there'll be a European release of the 3D right now.
Zavvi's Venom banner mentions it, but there is no 3D edition on the site (I've messaged them about it), while their Steelbook edition mysteriously has 2 discs (unlike the slipcase). Amazon UK and HMV have all pre-orders up, no 3D there either.
The only place to have it right now is Amazon Italy (2 disc slipcase) and we've seen that those Italy-only Sony 3Ds can be taken down, like Hotel Transylvania 3 recently (everyone just got cancellation notifications).
I fear it is truly the end of Sony 3D releases...

EDIT: Sure enough Zavvi have now removed "3D" from their site banner...

never purchased from zavvi before but if this comes back up i may consider. Just curious, is it standard for zavvi to have digital hd copies in their steelbooks or no? I don't really see much about it on their site so i assume no but figured worth asking.

If the regular amaray rel has a digital then the steel do to, unless you're disney, then digital codes is a no go in physical media.

Geez that's a nice looking steel... I don't want to support Sony's non-Spider-Man universe but it looks like it's going to make a lot of money anyway... so I might get this one.

Lol at this comment though... Venom killed it on its opening weekend, so much for that theory. Besides, why complain about having more options for different steelbook artwork?
