Post Run For Cover (1995) [No 3D Blu-ray]

Run For Cover 3D, an independent film shot in Stereovision, will be screened for lucky Villagers next year February 23 and February 24.

I enjoyed this action film on field-sequential DVD provided some time ago by the director Richard W. Haines. Perhaps it will come to 3D bluray soon.

I have a field sequential DVD as well. Run for Cover is hammy, low-budget
fun with strong depth and sprinkled with 3-D gimmicks throughout. Would
definitely grab a 3-D blu if it were to happen.

You New Yorkers have all the luck.
Let us know what you think of the screenings particularly Frankenstein's Bloody Terror 3D and Run For Cover 3D, if you see them.
Keep your eyes peeled for Jack Theakston who will likely be lurking about the projection booth area.

I'd love to see those films again. Particularly the Frankenstein double bill and Treasure of the Four Crowns.

Since the director will be there in person, it'd be interesting to find out the rights situation and if the film has a chance of coming out on 3D Blu-ray. I would expect the market for a 3D bluray of this film would be significantly greater than a 2d-only edition.

Very few 3D feature films were made in the 1990s, it'd be nice to have some representation.

That's an extremely safe bet...

Will do. Hopefully someone will ask about Chris Condon's brief involvement as well

3D Trailer:

Whatever the merits of the film itself, it might be an interesting 3D time-capsule of 90s New York.

I’m not sure where that info came from but Mr. Theakston will not be at the Quad.

I believe footage of the World Trade Center from Run of Cover was shown
during a tribute to the twin towers at the 2006 3-D Film Expo. Gives Run
for Cover a sort of historical relevance in terms of 3-D cinematography.

Yesterday:

Haines intro'd the movie and asked if there were any questions. There were none (I intended to ask after the end). Unfortunately I wasn't able to ask if a blu-ray is forthcoming. I may ask H.Guerro.

Mr. Adam West only worked on this film for one day. Taking him to the airport, the director (Richard Haines) got pulled over for speeding. Per Haines, West leapt out of the car and said "You're going to give another crimefighter a ticket?" The stunned officer waived the ticket and got an autograph.

Haines did mentioned Chris Condon in relation to how his Stereovision rig worked. He filmed RFC in 35mm 3D because he thought it would be unique for that time.

There is masking during the opening credits which gives a shadowy effect. This was done by the lab and Haines intends to get it fixed.

RFC only played in 2 theaters (think one was the Thalia). The premiere party was at the Hard Rock Cafe.

There is another 90s movie Across The Sea of Time which prominently features New York landmarks that I would like to see on blu-ray. BTW Viveca Lindfors (who is in only 1 scene with Adam West that lasts for about a minute) was in a western called Run For Cover 40 years before this one.

Mr, Richard W. can you tell me where you found the above ad? I think the date of February 2019 was supposed to be November......Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info Rob... I have to wonder if Adam West used that line on other occasions!

The fact that Haines mentioned something about getting the credits fixed would suggest he may be considering a release.

I realise I'm preaching to the choir here, but the point I would make is that while major blockbusters and big studio movies can afford to release separate 2d and 3d editions, with maybe ten or more 2d copies for every 3D copy sold, with obscure films like this the 3D is a significant reason there is interest in the film to begin with. Unfortunately something like Starchaser gets released in 2d first, so they may assume that if that didn't sell well in 2d, a 3D release will only sell a small fraction of that, so they don't bother, when actually it might well be the reverse and sell multiple times what the 2d release does.

I'd also like to see Across The Sea of Time again, too many of those Imax films are sadly neglected. I remember seeing that with a shutter-glass system that was uncomfortably heavy to wear.

My apologies. That was a shout-out and a kidding to Jack, who moved to the area, as you know. No offense.

The director emailed it to me, knowing of my interest.
We exchange emails every six or seven years or so.
I could be wrong but I think Richard W. Haines also posted it on his facebook page.

Did you enjoy the screening? It's a real independent film, isn't it. Were you pleased with the 3D?

Thanks again Richard. It was an early holiday treat and great to see NY (especially from a copter) in 3D. I contacted R Haines on his Facebook page where one year ago he mentioned he was trying to get a 3D blu done which he reasserted to me per my question. He has some print ads and pictures from RFC on that page as well.
