Default Sony BDP-S1 - $199 worth it?

A local store here, Myer-Emco is blowing out the Sony BDP-S1 at $199....I've been thinking about putting a Blu-Ray player in my bedroom hooked up to my Vizio 32" TV.....I already have a PS3 in my Home Theater system.......is it worth it?

I'm a liitle leery because it's first generation....slow load times.....other issues I've read about..........

Should I just wait to see what's coming out?

That's pretty cheap for it. I got one back in April when they was more. I have a PS3 and a BDP-S1 and I prefer the standalone cause it's dead silent. I've always kept the firmware up to date and haven't had one single problem with it. But the load times are a bit slow

Feel free to look into the BDP-S1 Player section for all that we have been through since inception, but I think it's a fantastic player. It has separate analog outputs to decode HD audio without an HDMI capable receiver. I think in actuality, I'd prefer this one over the current s300 if I were to place them side by side even today. And, with the additoinal price incentive of 200 bucks it would be a no-brainer (load times aside). I also personally think the BDP-S1 looks the coolest.

While it is a first gen machine and can't play or pass DTS-HD MA, it is a good buy at $199.
You will not find better build quality in the Sony line.

The slow load times are typical for a first gen and it will never be 1.1.
(like all first gens except the ps3)
So you will have to weigh those against your decision.

As a bedroom player on a 32" screen, go for it. Is it a final sale? Meaning you can't return it if it doesn't work out of the box?

I decided to pass....what was I thinking!!!!! I'm sure they are all gone. A friend of mine who also has a PS3 convinced me to to wait for the next generation of players to come out because they hopefully will be cheaper and faster. The main concern was the load times which would not go over well with the wife considering how fast the PS3 is......oh well......

It's ok.....I'm in no hurry.......
