Wouldn't this be a great title to be released on 4K? With the four hour director's cut.

I would love to see the 4 hour cut, but mostly I think it would be easier to get the 4K UHD version of the theatrical cut, yes? I would love to see that happen.

Well, if you don't mind seeing Jim Sturgess made up as a Korean, in 4K? Talk about being in the minority! The movie did badly because while it was interesting, it certainly was NOT good. Highly doubt the 4K will be flying off the shelves.
I'm good with my BD. |

Other films with poor box office returns have already been released on 4K. It's not about the box office, theatrical returns against the film budget, it's about the cost of producing the 4K disc (far less than the film budget) vs. projected sales of it. There are a lot of followers of this film, people who loved it, whether you did or not. Also, you need to read the book. There are no guarantees, but that might give you a better understanding of things in the film, such as "Jim Sturgess as Korean". Chris |

I think you are in the minority ![]() It did badly because its not for everyone. Not every movie has to be popular to be good. Its a critical and cult darling and I can promise you the 4K will sell. |

I realize I'm necro-ing this "old" thread, but I had to look to see if there was anything new about getting a 4K release. I'd love to have the 4K release of both the theatrical and director's cuts.

I got a bit of a, "Cloud Atlas," vibe watching, "The Creator," recently. A good 4K double-feature.

The only chance would be the German entities that financed it doing a new 4K master, but IMDb says that the movie was finished to a 2K DI in 2012, so they'd have to either just upscale it, which wouldn't give a whole lot more detail, or rebuild the whole movie from scratch in 4K, at great expense, which will never happen. I know the filmmakers shot more material, but I've never heard anything about there being a completed longer cut. Completing post-production (effects, sound, music, etc) for a longer cut would cost a fortune. The film was a catastrophic financial failure, sadly. I doubt any of the companies that financed it want to revisit it. I loved the film too, but I think we need to be content with the existing BDs. |
