Cool Has High Definition made us jaded or snobbish?

Remember when you first bought your HDTV? You may or may not have had immediate access to HD shows, but you enjoyed the hell out of having a new 16:9 TV. Probably first on your block.

Remember the moment you first saw HD in your home? Sure, seeing it in the showroom is nice, but once it appears in your home, your sense of values changes. You sat in superior snobbery enjoying the glories of HDTV when most of your friends and family still have that tv from 10 years ago. You have arrived. You are better than other people. Welcome to the 21st century!

You didn't care what you watched at first, you were simply awestruck by the image and sound. You sat and watched sports and TV shows you otherwise have no interest in just for the sheer enjoyment of the HD experience. I am no fan of sports myself, but to this day I will still stop and watch a few moments of a sports event simply for being in high def 16:9.

Some of us, mostly the younger generation, refuse to watch anything which isn't at least 4:3 high def. A few others won't watch anything less than 16:9!

Now look at us. Spoiled with HDTV and blu-ray. Some of us will never watch another DVD if we can help it. We still complain about every little picture artifact or the mere fact the sound wasn't high definiton enough for us. We used to see those things as forgiveable flaws because the experience was otherwise 98% perfect.

Have we come to expect too much? Will classic tv reruns die off because they are in B&W or standard definiton? Have we become that jaded in so short a time?

I feel you man, my gf took me to her friend's house and we were watching The Simpsons on a 30 inch tube TV the picture was just ugh, of course I could not say anything mean since it wasn't my house. I even stopped going to the movies because it just doesn't look the same, I enjoyed POTC3 more at home that at the theaters!

Actually, anything on film has the potential of being resurected in HD. It's the "live on tape before a studio audience" era that will be forgotten.

Hogan's Heroes has come back as HD. Seinfeld was filmed, so it can be remastered.

Neither jaded nor snobbish. But I just have to run away when a HDTV is being demoed using DVDs or worse, VCDs!

Jaded not snobbish. You can't blame someone else for being ignorant to the world of HD (snobbish). You can however, realize that SD Media is not for you anymore (jaded).

Ugh. Makes my Terminator flesh crawl. I'm glad to see Ice Age is coming out in March as I refuse to buy part 2 and watch it before part 1.

But my top two anticipated Disney titles are The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo. I'm hoping the Aquarium feature on Nemo is good enough to be a great virtual aquarium.

Look at me, complaining about us becoming jaded and I dislike the thought of watching SD extras on blu-ray.

Not snobbish.... just refined.

I think of it this way.... I appreciate a good steak. Not Sizzler, but an actual steakhouse. I'll still eat hamburgers, but when it comes to steak, it had better be GOOD.

The family converged at my sister's house this year for Christmas, and I was bored.... my mom asked me "why don't you watch TV?" I replied... "I tried, but it's too UGLY." Even she understood, as she has a 1080 Widescreen at her house, too.... and she agreed. I liken it to when you get new contacts, and you didn't realize how blind you WERE. It's hard to go back.

I haven't watched a Seinfeld rerun in a while. Family Guy reruns are at the same time and the older ones are definately funnier. But I would become a born-again Seinfeld fan for high def! "You double dipped the chip!" "No soup for you!"

ive become very snobish about the movie theaters.

if it is not a digital presenation you are going to have a hard time getting me in there (ive only seen two non-digital pictures in the last 8 months). i don't feel too snoby though because if i pay 8 bucks to watch a movie i think i should be able to demand the very best quality. i just feel ripped off when i got to a movie, pay 8 bucks and the whole time im in there it seems blurry.

only about 10% of my friends have lcds, and only 1 of those has a blu-ray player, nobody has hd dvd, i really don't care watching things on a tube tv. i can live with it. i know others aren't as fortunate as me or maybe spend their money differently and i don't look down on them for that. i didn't pay to watch a movie with them, nor is that the goal of my evening, they are my friends and i like to chill with them, not watch something with the best possible pq and aq, though it is sometimes difficult to see whats going on when you are used to a 40 inch 1080p tv and you are watching a 20 inch tube tv.

I would say "refined" is definitely the way to go. I have a 32 inch Sony Trinitron upstairs that I refuse to watch. I send the peasants upstairs while I watch my stuff in the home theater.

The very first plasma I bough many moons ago was a whopping $4,600 for a 42 inch.

Today I could buy 3 for the same price.

Ouch, but I paid about $5,800 for a 486/33 computer in early 1991. 14" monior, 4mb RAM, 1 Mb video card, and 200MB hd, and keyboard. It came with DOS and NO PRODUCTIVE SOFTWARE.

My main HDTV is a 34" Sony WEGA with picture tube! DVI and HD component inputs. Uses an HD tuner box. I'm still waiting for handheld portable digital TV's.

Absolutely! I have yet to find a "regular" theater that compares to my "home theater".

For me, it high-definition all the time whether that be cable or Blu-ray. No inferior-definition programming/formats for me.

Same here on Pirates.
I will always watch the classic TV series, however I still marvel at how far the picture/sound quality has improved.
I am much more critical of modern shows picture quality. I got Directv for better picture quality and in upsets me that the local CBS affilitales NFL games look so bad.

Wel, I've always been jaded... hence my handle. As for snobbish... hmm, I like the way someone else here put it -- "refined.' So, yes, I am jaded... and my tastes are "refined." Nothing wrong with either of those traits.

Definitely huge snobs. I have no interest anymore in watching SD programs, I'd rather wait until they are on one of the HD channels, or just watch a blu-ray.
