Default Picture Discs and colored discs

are these easier to scratch than normal discs? I have some but I feel like I shouldn't play them since I am afraid they would get messed up.

I've never noticed any difference. A lot of picture discs have comparatively low sound quality, but they're no more fragile than a regular black LP.

Generally speaking, the more colours in a piece of vinyl, the lower the sound quality as it wears faster. The worst sounding vinyl is glow in the dark as it contains phosphorus. The thing that makes the biggest difference after mastering and pressing is the newness of the vinyl, virgin vinyl sounds better than recycled. Single colour makes little difference, whether its black or any other colour. Toshiba Japan had a red vinyl called Everclean which repelled dust and some enthusiasts say the Everclean pressings sound better than the black discs by the same company as they have less static and surface noise (early Pink Floyd albums are particularly sought after and command high prices)

I have Michael Jackson's Thriller as a picture disc (Legacy/Epic's 180-gram reissue for the 25th or 30th anniversary release) and aside from slightly poorer quality sound (you can actually hear the elements of the paper sheeting they lay down between the layers of vinyl on side two) I don't find it more scratch or damage-prone...
