Criterion Mulholland Dr.

Blu-ray review Dr. Svet Atanasov says in the video portion of his review that the release is sourced from a new 4K restoration of the film which was supervised by director David Lynch and director of photography Peter Deming.

Yeah I knew that.

I hope Criterion will jump on the UHD train soon (please Dead Man, Silence of the Lambs...) or another company can acquire the transfers and rights for a great UHD.

You're more likely to see StudioCanal (who actually did the 4K remaster) release this on UHD disc than Criterion.

Criterion did the 4K remaster
Quote:
"Supervised by director David Lynch and director of photography Peter Deming, this new digital transfer was created in 4K resolution on a Scanity film scanner from the original camera negative. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, scratches, splices, warps, jitter, and flicker were manually removed using MTI's DRS and Pixel Farm's PFClean, while Digital Vision's Phoenix was used for small dirt, grain, and noise management.

Transfer supervisor: David Lynch, Peter Deming, Lee Kline.
Colorist: Stephen Bearman/Deluxe Digital London.
Additional color correction: George Koran/FotoKem, Los Angeles; Sheri Eisenberg/Colorworks, Culver City, CA.
4K scanning: Colorworks."

I stand corrected. But it's still StudioCanal's movie, they still have access to the exact same master, and you're still far more likely to see them release it on UHD than Criterion.

True, as StudioCanal has actually released UHDs. (Although, if Criterion wanted to dip their toes in the UHD pool, I think Lynch's films would be a good choice.)

Nah, they’ll go with something more commercial, like armageddon

I'd rather have the rest of Lynch's catalog on BD before this on UHD..

All of Lynch's theatrical output is on Blu, just not all of it is available in NA.

I hate Armageddon although I laugh at Criterion releasing that I did own The Criterion Edition of The Rock on DVD.
