Paramount Brian DePalma's The Untouchables

Brian DePalma's The Untouchables is one of the greatest real life stories about, law enforcement.

The reviewer gave a pretty good score 4 to the video, but only a 3.5 for audio it has a DTS soundtrack at 1.5mbps. It would be great to hear Ennio Morricone's in 5.1 DTS-MA.

"He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He pulls a HD DVD you pull a Blu-ray..."

Greatest real life stories?

It's a twee, immature, poorly-written, flatly-shot, gross misrepresentation of the truth and everyone seems convinced that it is a masterpiece.

It ain't.

Love Morricone's score though.

"The Untouchables" couldn't be anymore farther from the truth. It's more of a loose adaptation of the Robert Stack TV series.

Who cares if it’s accurate? It’s a cinematic tour de force and I’d buy it on UHD in a heartbeat. De Palma, Morricone, Costner, Connery, De Niro, Garcia, Drago...come on!

Magnificent film. Diabolical Blu-ray (and I don't give a shit what the reviewer marked it as). With it being at Paramount it's actually got a better chance than most of getting a proper 4K redo, but as the 30th anniversary was two years ago and there's no reboot/remake/sequel on the horizon then that ship has sailed for another few years.

I would take pretty much any De Palma (even Snake Eyes).

So 2022 will be the 35 anniversary I could see Paramount putting it out then.

Casualties of War and Mission to Mars are my top De Palma, but the guy is a master and has plenty of masterworks under his belt.

I maybe the only guy ever who thinks that De Palma's Scarface is terrible. Let the roasting commence.

For sure! I always wanna shake my head at the 'it's not accurate' line of reasoning to denigrate a film. If it succeeds in diverting from reality and the outcome is a cinematic wonder as was The Untouchables I say that rests the entire case right there.

I always underestimate how much I love this film. A Costner top 3 performance. Connery great. Music damn near legendary. The tone, pacing, editing, atmosphere, the directing, the epicness without the modern frills at disposal today -- It's such a shame about the BD which I haven't watched nearly as much as I wanted as aside from PQ the audio we got on it disappointed me -- But I guess taking solace how Paramount can now deliver a product in line with their good track record of catalog could finally see this title have it's rightful treatment on home video.

Damn you for making me hyped on a wishlist thread!

Nah. I'll join you... Look. I recognize it's really well loved and I know it's good craft from a director I rate. But I gotta say only the ending act even got me to think much of it.

No biopics and movies that's allegedly suppose to be based on true stories are 100% accurate. They are all part fact and part fiction, to make the movie(s) more entertaining and appealing to the audiences. It's Hollywood!

I got the Japanese Blu-ray, which has 6.1 DTS-HD MA, but haven't watched it yet. It's readily available from amazon.jp, so you could try that while waiting for the 4K disc to be released.

Images would be nice.

Is the transfer any better than the US/UK editions?

I can see what Dailyan was getting at with his comment above brainofj72 original post, but if he wants accuracy about The Untouchables I am sure there are books on the matter and I would suspect that History Channel or its US equivalent has done a true history of the events.
