iTunes has this for $10 now so I grabbed it.
Audio options listed include Atmos and DD 5.1 I cant find the option to switch to the 5.1 track. Edited to add that I do know how to swipe down to switch audio and cc options. Anyone have some insight on this? Last edited by whotony; 02-20-2019 at 02:54 AM. |

I think it's automatic... If you have an Atmos receiver, you should get the Atmos audio. If you don't, then you get the 5.1. If you only have stereo, you get the 2.0 track (which is always delivered to Apple as a unique audio track, Apple doesn't 'down mix' the 5.1 to stereo).
If you have Atmos, but still want the 5.1, I think you'd have to disable Atmos in your receiver to make it revert to the 5.1. I don't believe you can toggle between them on the fly... |

That may be the case with this movie but shouldn’t be.
The description lists Atmos, surround 5.1 There should be two different sound files for this movie. The 5.1 DD track is the original sound effects. The Atmos is the Thau remixed and re-recorded sound effects track. |

Yeah, maybe they should have done it differently, with the 5.1 original audio being a bonus feature or something... (See 2001 for example, in order to deliver the original 1968 audio it had to be a an extra bonus feature, not just a switchable audio track like on disc. Same thing with commentaries.)
But it's a limitation of Apple's system- you can only have one English audio track visible to the end user. So the system chooses the best available track in that language and sends it to you based on your setup. Unless there's an iTunes setting somewhere to tell the system you don't want Atmos, the only way to change it is to have your system tell the AppleTV that you can't play Atmos. Considering that some people might want to revert back to more original audio, especially on features with Atmos, they should make a way to chose that... I don't have an Atmos setup, so I'm not 100% sure how it looks, but from what you've said, sounds like it's the same as 2.0 vs 5.1- the system just picks the best available for you... |
