Default AMC's 'Orphan Black' Series

Well this came out of left field...Tatiana made the original show special.

Quote:
New ‘Orphan Black’ Series in Development at AMC (EXCLUSIVE)

“Orphan Black” fans could soon have reason to celebrate.

Variety has learned from sources that a new series set in the “Orphan Black” universe is currently in the early development stages at AMC. Temple Street Productions, which produced the original series, is onboard to produce the new series as well.

Sources stressed, however, that this would not be a spinoff or reboot of the original series, but rather a completely new story set in the same world. The producers are currently seeking a writer for the project and are looking to bring in multiple people to pitch different takes on what the show could be.

AMC and Temple Street declined to comment.

News of the development is made all the more interesting by the fact that it is set up at AMC rather than BBC America, which aired the original in the U.S. It is still too early in the process to tell whether the new show would air on multiple networks under the AMC Networks umbrella, but it was recently announced that Season 2 of the critically-acclaimed drama “Killing Eve” would be simulcast on its original network home, BBC America, as well as on AMC.

“Orphan Black” was co-created by John Fawcett and Graeme Manson. The series launched in 2013 and ran for five seasons. It starred Tatiana Maslany as a woman who discovers that she is a clone and that someone is plotting to kill her and her clone “sisters.” Both the series and Maslany’s performance were well-received by critics. She was nominated for three Emmys and a Golden Globe during the show’s run, winning the Emmy for best actress in a drama series in 2016.

So, it's not a spinoff but set in the same world... but they don't even know what it'll be about yet lol It's weird how studios announced intentions to create shows instead of waiting for a show to actually be created, like how they announce casting for parts months in advance that spoil plotlines and reveals.

I loved Orphan Black so if it's interesting I'll watch, but if they're going out of the way to set it in the same world, I feel like it'd have to be about new clones or about the Neolutionists or something.

Never heard of that, looked it up. They're set in the same fictional town and John Fawcett directed the first movie and Tatiana Maslany was in the second, but I don't think that means they're in the same world. One is fantasy and the other is scifi and if a werewolf had been running around years before, Orphan Black would've mentioned it I'm sure lol

Why? Where does story go from here more of Neolution side of story and on AMC instead of BBC America? So many questions about this idea.

This is completely unexpected. I will need to hear more before I can have any real opinion on this.

Alison lives in Bailey Downs, the same neighborhood/town from Ginger Snaps. It was also featured in A Christmas Horror Story.

BBC America is part of the AMC Networks, that's why they'll be doing the second season of Killing Eve as well. Plus wasn't BBC America just who airs it in America? I never fully understood if it was a co-production with the Canadian studio or if it was produced for them and BBC America just airs it in the US.

I'd still say that's all down to the people involved, not actual universe connection. It'd be no different than if Echo from Dollhouse went on a "mission" in a town called Sunnydale... or if Jason Katims, JJ Abrams, or Joss Whedon used other naming aspects for their unconnected shows.

Update:

Quote:
‘Orphan Black’ Sequel a Go at AMC Networks

The world of Orphan Black is expanding, some five years after the original series left the air.

AMC Networks has greenlit a new series, Orphan Black: Echoes, that’s set in the same fictional world as the BBC America cult favorite that ran from 2013-17. The series, set to debut in 2023 on AMC+ and the company’s linear networks, comes from writer and showrunner Anna Fishko (Pieces of Her) and Boat Rocker, whose Temple Street Productions produced the original series. Orphan Black co-creator John Fawcett is also on board as executive producer and director.

Echoes is set in the near future and will take “a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence,” per AMC’s description. The new series will follow a group of women who work their way into each other’s lives unravel the mystery of their identity and uncover a wrenching story of love and betrayal. AMC Networks announced the project in 2019, and Fishko — whose credits also include AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and Netflix’s The Society — came aboard in February.

“Orphan Black had a remarkable run on BBC America, attracting millions of dedicated and highly engaged fans, captivated by a smart and engrossing story and a star-making and Emmy-winning performance by Tatiana Maslany,” said AMC Studios and AMC Networks entertainment president Dan McDermott. “We can’t wait to dive back in with Anna, John and our partners at Boat Rocker and deliver an all-new version of this rich world that is worthy of the Clone Club.”

Said Fishko, “I am thrilled to begin this new chapter in the world of Orphan Black. Creating a story that embraces the legacy of the original show has been so gratifying, and I’m excited for audiences to embark on a new journey that explores the big questions of what makes us who we are. I’m incredibly lucky to have such supportive partners in Boat Rocker, John Fawcett and AMC, and can’t wait to introduce audiences old and new to the next installment of this beloved story.”

Orphan Black premiered on BBC America in March 2013 and ran for five seasons, with Maslany winning an Emmy in 2016 for her breakout role(s). Its first season won a Peabody Award.

“Embarking on a new saga of Orphan Black with Anna, our partners at Boat Rocker, and AMC could not be more exciting,” said Fawcett. “For all our dedicated OB fans out there, I am thrilled that we can bring this new chapter to them. Without our fans, this new show certainly wouldn’t exist and for that I am deeply grateful. I can’t wait to ‘follow the crazy science’ for them.”

Added Boat Rocker Media co-executive chairmen and Boat Rocker Studios co-chairmen David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, “We started our journey down the Orphan Black rabbit hole when Sarah Manning watched Beth Childs inexplicably jump in front of an oncoming train. Since then, a passionate fandom has joined us for a wildly entertaining ride. We’re delighted to be partnering with AMC and Anna Fishko and joining forces again with John Fawcett, to boldly re-enter the Orphan Black universe. Once again, we welcome Clone Club along for the ride and look forward to adventuresome new fans taking the leap.”

Fishko and Fawcett will executive produce Orphan Black: Echoes with Fortier and Schneeberg (who also exec produced the original) and Boat Rocker’s Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard.

I loved the original series, mainly seasons 1-4, but I gave up on its final one. It was a chore to watch it.

I'll definitely try this out.

The first Season 3 i bought is blue on the bottom like its a MOD or something. The additional Season 3 i had to purchase has a standard Blu Ray back. The Blue/MOD one quality of also worse than the one on the standard Blu Ray (maybe one is 25GB and the other is 50GB?).

The cases look identical though so I don't know why they would be different. Any ideas?
Where did you buy them? Sounds like you originally got a bootleg. These were never MOD releases.

Will see what the sequel brings. Doubt it will have much of an impact without Tatiana. She made the show.

Yeah, I started to lose interest even before season 4. The first season was really captivating. Season two was solid but by season 3 it stated to get unwieldy. I think I stopped and didn’t continue right around the middle of season 3. But, I’d try out a new show to see if it’s any good.

The lead actress is quite easy on the eyes too.

Tatiana really is quite something.

Also, she showed she can play multiple characters without any hassle while well known Hollywood actors tend to play the same character whichever movie or show it is.

Breaking Bad alumna Krysten Ritter is returning to AMC as star and executive producer of Orphan Black: Echoes, the upcoming Orphan Black offshoot series slated for a 2023 debut on AMC Networks’ digital platform AMC+ and linear nets.

The 10-episode new series, produced and distributed globally by Boat Rocker, is set in the world of Orphan Black.

Orphan Black: Echoes takes place in the near future and explores the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women — one of them played by Ritter — as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

Ritter’s Lucy is a woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world.

Anna Fishko is creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer of Orphan Black: Echoes with John Fawcett, the co-creator of the original series, on as director and executive producer. David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, executive producers from Boat Rocker on the original Orphan Black, return as executive producers on the new series. Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard also executive produce for Boat Rocker.

Known for her title roles in Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, Ritter will next be seen in HBO’s Love and Death, opposite Elizabeth Olsen. She was recently seen in the film Nightbooks for Netflix and directed and executive produced the supernatural YA series The Girl in the Woods for Peacock. Ritter also is working on a follow-up to her novel Bonfire.

Ritter, who got her break on Breaking Bad as Jane Margolis, is repped by CAA, Industry Entertainment, Principal Entertainment LA, and Brecheen, Feldman, Breimer, Silver, and Thompson.
