"The last Concept Sky Commuter aircraft in Existence"

^^ If you can't hit the link directly, simply go to www.ebay.com and punch that phrase in the search engine without the quotes.

Yes, that's all real and the history and pictures are fascinating. It's amazing they came up with prototypes like that back in the 80's.

When I was growing up as a kid, that's the kind of thing I expected for us come around the year 2010, which is where were almost at now. What a letdown.

Shouldn't this kind of thing be offered or sold to the Smithsonian or something like that instead of being on Flea Bay?

Then again, I suspect that musems like that are probably part of the bidding war or will be before it's all said and done.

I wonder if such concepts are doomed to fail due to the enormous energy cost of flying one or two people. The forward propulsion is still needed on top of the energy expended counteracting gravity that Coulomb does for free with ground vehicles.

If a lifting body was used, so that it operated more like a plane in flight, that would help.

I note how they never got their design stable.

I thought I saw a program on dicovery hd or something like that about several new attempts at making a viable flying car. one got about 22 miles per gallon once it got in the air. the only problem was it used way to much power getting into the air.

Don't know how old you are, but when I was a kid growing up in 1961, I watched the Bob Cummings show, in which he drove/flew a combination aircraft car, the Aero Car.

By my timetable, aerocars should've been routine by the '80's. ;-)

A little before my time, but I've heard of those.
