Alita, but I also REALLY love and appreciate what GITS was going for with it’s American adaptation. Never really understood the major outrage over certain story elements.

Also, now you’ve got me highly interested in a Major+Alita team-up. Their powers together side-by-side......

Alita: Battle Angel live-action movie > GITS live-action movie.

but in fairness,

GITS anime > Battle Angel Alita anime.

Now, Alita: Battle Angel vs GITS anime, there's a real fight!

(Though I kinda like 'em all to be honest.)

Agree. GITS anime series (Stand Alone Complex) and 95 movie > Battle Angel OVA

The 2017 movie is underrated. It could've been a lot worse, and the score was kickass, maybe even a little more than Alita.

The more I think about it, the more of a letdown GITS is to me. Fine-looking film and all, but a poor adaptation of the source material. Feels way too cliched and generic compared to the '95 film. It's doubly disappointing since the filmmakers assured us at the time that there would be some substance to the style (but not really).

Alita: Battle Angel didn't quite hit the mark like I wanted, but at least it's fairly true to the source.

Been wanting to rewatch both of these to see how they hold up. I swear I'll get to them someday.

Alita has its goofiness and chunkiness but it has sincerity, which that GITS adaptation did not.
