Default Macbeth (by Joel Coen, starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand)

Quote:
When you have eight Oscars between you, it becomes less daunting to take on Shakespeare. I’m told that Denzel Washington is in early talks to team with Frances McDormand in a screen adaptation of Macbeth that will be directed by Joel Coen, from an adaptation he is writing. Scott Rudin is producing, and the plan is for A24 to distribute worldwide. [SOURCE]

Might be the wildest movie-related news I've ever heard.

Awesome.

Nolan’s casting a Washington as his first black lead. The Coens are doing likewise. Can Scorsese cast Washington’s wife in his next film?

Denzel and Coen?! Dunno why it's not both the Coens but I'm in day one. McDormand is icing on the cake.

"Why is A24 rebooting Macbeth already? All these greedy studios care about is money!"

"Washington not MacBeth! Bring back Fassbender!"

"It's insulting to Fassbender to have someone else playing his role!"

"Hollywood is running out of ideas!"

Kurosawa's Throne of Blood and Polanski's Macbeth are among the greatest films I've ever seen; I found them so thoroughly satisfying that I haven't bothered with Welles' and Kurzel's versions yet. I hope that Coen's will have something peculiar to differentiate itself from the many previous adaptations (other than the glorious casting of Washington and McDormand, which is anything but cliché). Granted, the guy is a master - even if it's a straight adaptation I'll end up watching it.

EDIT: this was an incredibly thoughtless post. Of course it won't be a "straight" adaptation - not with that cast.

Yeah, better that than a sibling fall-out or health problems!

This is a directing/acting/adaptation combo I never knew I needed, but now that it's happening I NEED IT.

The Indian version (Maqbool) is also quite good.
