Default 1998 Godzilla vs 2014 Godzilla. FIGHT!

In the lead up to Godzilla: King of the Monsters (which I firmly believe will blow both of these two movies out of the water IMO), I would like to pose this question to you: Which Godzilla movie do you prefer out of the 1998 Godzilla and the 2014 Godzilla?

IMO I prefer 1998 Godzilla over the 2014 Godzilla. While 2014 Godzilla is faithful to the classic movies, 1998 Godzilla entertains me more and I tend to watch that more often.

They're both so different. To be honest, '98 Godzilla is more of a fun movie. I may be one of the few that really liked/likes it. Not that I'm disparaging '14 Godzilla, good movie, but different. 2014 = 4/5, 1998 = 3/5. I still prefer '98 by a small margin.

98 Godzilla! Saw it in theaters as a good, and really liked it! Felt bored out my mind during the 2014 one.

1998 for the nostalgic factor and for childhood purposes but the 2014 is the better film in every aspect.

2014 is objectively better but '98 is special to me.

While it has its flaws, Godzilla '14 is actually a decent movie. Godzilla '98 is just bad (joke's on me as I still own it... it's the Godzilla completist in me).

Here's hoping Godzilla: King of the Monsters dethrones its predecessor as the best American Godzilla film to date. It certainly looks to have the potential.

The 1998 Godzilla is one of the most cringe-worthy films I've seen, and it pains me to remember how much I liked it back when I was 11. From the typically silly Emmerich-ian jokes to the OTT acting, it's inane - a children's movie.

The 2014 movie is a majestic, somber, epic sci-fi that I'll probably still admire decades from now.

It's no contest.

The '98 may be a decent flick but is not the Big G. I grew up with Godzilla, so I was fairly disappointed with it.

So,yeah, my vote went to the '14 version.

godzilla 2014 has no repeat viewing value. saw it once, was enough.
would watch again in 3D only to test out my hardware.

Rich of RLM said it best: the 2014 Godzilla has its issues, but what it needed to get right, it got absolutely right. This (G98) doesn't get anything right.

Godzilla 2014 no contest. And I never bought the argument "if G98 wasn't called Godzilla, it would be great". Yeah, no, it would still be a terrible movie. They could call the 98 movie anything else and it would still be a dumb kaiju film with terrible acting and dialog ("that's a lot of fish" is a literal line in the movie FYI), plot holes so big you could drive a semi through them, shoddy CGI (they had to keep GINO in the rain/dark to cover up how bad the CGI was), annoying characters and action scenes that are really nothing special. All he does is run away from shit while the braindead military somehow manages to not once hit a friggin' 200+ foot tall iguana. And lose sight of him twice along with 8 million people. What are the odds?

I'd rather watch the 1998 again than the 2014 one. I watched the 2014 again last year in anticipation of KOTM and it has practically no replay value. I appreciate Edwards willingness to hold back, but it may have been to the detriment of the film. And even though both films largely take place at night, I can actually see and enjoy clearly what the hell is going on in Emmerich's film.

I tried to rewatch 14 twice. I just found myself only watching the zilla scenes (about 8 minutes worth...). Agree with the sentiment it has ZERO replay value. Its not an awful film.

98 is an awful film, but its fun.

Default Godzilla (1998) vs. Godzilla (2014)

Which version do you like more?

I personally enjoy Emmerich's one more, as it is more 'fun' to watch.
