Real Ghostbusters SD on BD - Blu-ray Forum

Towards the end of last year, the Real Ghostbusters series was released in a 3 disc "SD on Blu-Ray" set in Germany.

The packaging says it is region B, but I know sometimes they are actually region free even if the packaging says otherwise.

Has anyone tried this on a US player?

I can't give you a definitive answer but even if they are region-free then the fact that they appear to be PAL will mean you'll probably have problems playing them on a US TV anyway because most suck at playing 50Hz content.

Some players get around that. I discovered this issue the hard way when I imported the complete series of Parker Lewis Can't Lose after seeing info stating that it was region free.

At first I thought it wasn't region free since after trying it in a couple of Blu-Ray players and a PS3, I couldn't get it to work. Then I found out about the 50HZ thing, and looked up compatible players, with the PS4 being one of them, tried it in that, and it worked. The Xbox One (which I also have) is also listed as being compatible, though I haven't ever tested it.

So in theory I should be all set with being able to watch this assuming that it is not region locked.

bluray-disc.de lists it as B locked.

Did anyone pick up this release? interested to hear opinions on the picture/audio quality before I place an order.

just received mine. i'll look at it tonight in my region free player. the Region A player at work is not playing it, so i can assume it is a Region B locked. i can see the warnings and the company logo, but then it goes back to the player menu (not the disc menu).

Sounds more like it’s Region Free but the menu is PAL while the opening intros are 24fps.

I have my finger over the checkout button so looking forward to hearing your thoughts in this.

You mean the blu-ray player i tried it in doesn't handle PAL?

PAL speedup never bothered me. I never understood the people who loose their minds over it

I grew up watching it on UK TV so it’s the only way I have ever known it, had I grown up watching it at the correct speed then its possible I might feel different, same goes for the Back to the Future Animated Series Blu-ray.

It really does bother me but only on content I know really well (mostly shows I first saw via download in the mid 2000's like Stargate Atlantis and BSG), so used to how the music sounds and actors talk that when I catch an episode playing on UK TV I normally turn it off, just doesn’t sound right.

Thankfully, if I get this, it sounds region free. And since I have a PlayStation 4, the 50hz issue won't be a problem either.

Just received this set today and I can confirm this plays flawlessly on my Sony UBP-X700 (US version) and Vizio P65-F1. Thought I would share that as I have seen conflicting info on whenther these will play in region A NTSC players.
