Japan Godzilla: New Japanese Animated Productions

Godzilla: New (2017+) Japanese Animated productions.

I've tried to find info wrt to the new titles (i.e Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle) but finding it difficult to do so.

Such as;
- are there now 3 films released? (I believe that was the plan)
- any editions have English subs?
- what is the order for the films ( I could go by release date I guess).

Even IMDB has little to no info in this regard.

Any assistance such as a link to a topical discussion would be greatly appreciated, as I'd love to get these but no idea of status.

Ta!

All 3 movies are already on Netflix

The first one reminded me of Terraformars anime done worse, I was quite overcome by boredom and the messy CG that rarely works for anime

^^ Thanks much for your replies.

I do not subscribe to Netflix (nor intend to ) so I was actually querying info wrt the Blu-rays.

I've not heard of any releases outside of Japan for the 3 films, so hoping to discover if they are English friendly (subs or dubs) and if folk whom may have purchased, were happy with them.

I also see more than one edition for the films, with sometimes dramatic price differences.
My Japanese is unfortunately, zero knowledge, so any assistance would be most welcome!
Cheers!

The order of the films is:

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (GODZILLA 怪獣惑星) (2017) which was released in Japan on November 17th, 2017, and was released on Blu-ray in Japan on May 8th, 2018.

Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle (GODZILLA 決戦機動増殖都市) (2018) which was released in Japan on May 18th, 2018, and was released on Blu-ray in Japan on November 7th, 2018.

Godzilla: The Planet Eater (GODZILLA 星を喰う者) (2018) which was released in Japan on November 9th, 2018, and will be released on Blu-ray in Japan on May 22nd, 2019.

All three films have been / will be released on standard and collector's edition Blu-ray. The collector's editions are digipaks and add a bonus Blu-ray Disc with additional extras. Additionally, Amazon Japan had or has listings for both versions of all three films with exclusive minor extras, like small posters or stickers, which is why we have so many listings for each of the movies.

Audio for all three films is only in Japanese (DTS-HD MA 5.1 and Stereo, plus Japanese: DTS Stereo audio description), and subtitles are only Japanese SDH.

There are actually very valuable listings here:

http://godzilla-anime.com/bddvd/index-01.html

http://godzilla-anime.com/bddvd/index-02.html

http://godzilla-anime.com/bddvd/index.html

which break down the A/V specs of the Blu-ray releases of the three films. Unfortunately, they are in Japanese, and for some reason, the pages won't load properly when plugged into the Google Translate main page, but if you can auto-translate the pages once they load (I think you have to be in Chrome), that works fine.

As far as I know, there haven't been any releases outside of Japan, yet.

^^ Thank-you so very much McCrutchy for the excellent info!
Greatly appreciated!

As I feared, there does not seem to be any English friendly releases.
With the size of the Godzilla fan base in both NA and Europe, I can only hope that changes in times to come.

When time permits, I shall review all the links you provided and hopefully glean more insight as to what these editions are like.

Thanks again my friend!

I saw the first film, and didn't see the others, as I found it utterly terrible. Here's my review. I wouldn't pick them up without at least checking out the first one.

*just noticed you don't have Netflix, so really I'd say to skip.

Netflix has exclusive rights outside of Japan, but perhaps in a year Toho will be able to license the films out for home video, depending on their contract.

If you chose Netflix you get the subs & english dubs. Just saying its the better deal as these movies are rent friendly at the most rather than being worthy of having the blurays

^^ I appreciate your advice however, I'd just as soon not get Netflix, regardless. Not because I won't watch it but because I WILL watch it, ALL THE TIME!!! heh. I have enough time sponges in my life currently.

It is great to know that an English dub and sub were made though. That gives me hope.

As for the films, well I'm usually easier to please than many. I am a big fan of the Big G and other than the Toho kiddie releases (i.e. "Son of Godzilla") I have most.
If I can manage the camp many of those provided, I'm sure I'll be okay with these newer incarnations.

Thanks again for taking time to comment.
