I thought, "First Love, hhmmm, perhaps a movie from Miike without blood and gore . . ."
Then reads 'Monica unwittingly gets caught up in a drug-smuggling scheme, and the two are pursued through the night by a corrupt cop, a yakuza, Leo’s nemesis and a female assassin sent by the Chinese Triads.' Yup, there will be blood and gore. |

Screen International review - "This riotously entertaining bloodbath from Takashi Miike might be his most commercial film in a while."
THR - "Familiar territory for Miike, but never boring. Prolific Japanese genre maestro Takashi Miike’s latest Cannes world premiere is a riotous rom-com with a high body count." + Clips Last edited by Cremildo; 05-18-2019 at 12:45 AM. |

![]() Miike usually puts out at least 2 (and as many 8) new films per year. |

I liked this quite a bit. There was a nice bit of comedy mixed in with the action.
This is some real good Miike style in Yakuza genre. If you have been a long time fan and enjoyed themes of family and stories about those who are merely on the edge of the underworld in his older Yakuza movies, I think you should check this out. I am also pretty sure that there is a scene which utilizes a musical cue from Rainy Dog which shares some themes with this film. If you have seen Miike's recent Mole Song outings and felt that they were a bit too over the top and that there was a link missing from most viewers to what is on screen, I think you might enjoy this tale of an orphan boxer's brush with the underworld. |
