Disney Marvel Studios' Nova reportedly in development

Quote:
Sources close to MCU Cosmic are reporting today that Marvel Studios is already making serious headway on a standalone Nova movie.

We should clarify that this is the same source that confirmed Katherine Langford’s role in Avengers: Endgame long before Joe and Anthony Russo’s cinematic masterclass hit theaters, so we’re inclined to believe MCU Cosmic when they say that Nova’s big debut is already on the cards.

Granted, there’s no further details on how far along this project really is, nor whether the character will first appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, before being spun out into his own separate story. Be that as it may, as MCU chief Kevin Feige told ComicBook.com earlier this year, Nova has been waiting in the wings for a long time, and his story is deeply connected to the Guardians brand of the MCU.

"Nova is… if we have a big board with a bunch of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board. Because of the connection to the Guardians universe, because there are more than one examples to pull from in the comics that are interesting. And you’re absolutely right, he was in the earliest drafts of the [Guardians of the Galaxy]."

Now that he’s been reinstated on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the onus is on James Gunn to properly introduce Nova to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. Or so says Endgame co-director Joe Russo:

"I think that exists more in the Guardians universe. That would have to be a James Gunn thing. But again, we just had too many characters on our plate. And you can’t introduce somebody who doesn’t have their own movie like [Captain] Marvel. You can’t just throw them into the final chapter of a book."

Closer to home, Marvel Studios still has Spider-Man: Far From Home waiting in the wings before MCU Phase 3 is done and dusted. And after that? Black Widow and the sequel to Doctor Strange, before Nova is eventually drafted into the studio’s grand, post-Endgame universe. And how exciting is that?

That is too simplistic. Neither of those examples can be driven insane by their powers.

I'm not surprised they'll be doing Nova and possibly involving Nova Corps given they can somewhat counter DCs Green Lantern Corps movie.

With the events of IW showing Thanos decimated Xandar, the movie could take place just after that event and criss cross to catch up to EG timeline. Honestly look forwards to a more serious cosmic sided character if they go that way and let Guardians handle humour on a higher level of usage.

Its about ****ing time Richard Rider got his movie. As I've been reading the newer Marvel comics Nova is becoming my favorite. Id love for them to do Chris Powell aka Darkhawk too.

Well officially its not been cancelled and its one of the few recognised cosmic properties DC could use to counter Guardians, Nova etc. from Marvel. I think WB is still playing a long game to see how things are turning up to see when they can do a DCEU style connection again. Even then, a GL corps movie as a solo isn't unthinkable.

I'm hoping to see Nova be another side of the coin to what Captain Marvel will probably be doing in her 2nd solo movie likely set in space.

Quote:
Nova is Set For His MCU Debut!
October 8, 2019 Jeremy Conrad

A fan favorite character is on the way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he may be showing up sooner than many expected.

Back in May, MCU Cosmic reported that development on Nova had begun at Marvel Studios. That followed comments by Kevin Feige a year earlier when he told ComicBook.com that Nova was a character with “immediate potential”. In May it was hard to tell how far the development was on the project, but now I have a better idea.

According to very reliable sources, Nova appears to be one of the big characters planned for a Phase 5 debut alongside Blade, The Fantastic Four, and the Mutants. And from the sound of things, and how it’s been in development for a while, it could be relatively early in Phase 5 as well.

Right now the only Phase 5 movie we have a release date for is Black Panther II on May 6, 2022. There are also February and July MCU releases in 2022, not to mention any of the movies planned for 2023. So where Nova would appear is difficult to predict at this point.

We also can’t ignore Disney+, as Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She Hulk show; Marvel’s not against introducing a new character there before moving them into the movies. There’s also a possibility of him debuting in a cosmic movie like Captain Marvel 2.

Wherever he debuts, The Human Rocket is soon to be part of the MCU, and it’s something fans have been waiting a very long time for.

I wish they would stop reporting the X-Men movies as Mutants. That's probably not what Feige meant. But whatever, this thread aint about that.

I honestly want to see how Marvel will fare in their transition from the huge set up of Avengers and the multiple sequels those core characters had to now try and keep that gravy train going with other original characters and not having the fall back of many of those old Avengers like Iron Man post EG.

Maybe Marvel has whet audience appetites enough to get given a chance on new characters but time will tell how they stack up.

I'm sure they'll do fine. It's a mainstream movie franchise. They could go more complex in the relation of the characters but it seems like Marvel doesn't have the nerve to go there, yet.

Saying that, I never cared for Nova at all when I grew up. He was neat to some degree in the 1990s but it wasn't till Annihilation that Rider was someone I cared about. Man, I hate that my era of comics was the 1990s. There is some really insane highspots in there but the 1990s as whole wasn't hot for quality. Looked super cool though! Hahaha.
