Now that we've received our early allocation of 55" and 65" A9G and we've shipped our customer's orders we can start the discussion with owners of Sony's new Master Series OLED TVs.
We'll be posting our findings later this week and our calibrator, John will be fine tuning our showroom A9Gs. Let the serious games begin! |

This was a good Sound and Vision magazine review, however according to the spec sheet on Sony’s website this OLED display does not support HDR10+ technology. Only standard HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision. However the review mentions the HDR10+ feature which is either incorrect information or Sony just came out with a firmware update to offer HDR10+. To make matters worse it is my understanding that 100% of all consumer displays in the United States do not offer both DolbyVision and HDR10+ from the exact same display. If one wants both they have to own two separate displays.
Select quotes from the Sound and Vision magazine review "The A9G lineup also includes a 77-inch model, but the 65-inch XBR-65A9G is the featured attraction here." "The A9G has four HDMI 2.0b inputs. While there's no upgrade path to full HDMI 2.1 (which would likely involve hardware changes), the set does offer one HDMI 2.1 feature: eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) on HDMI 3." "The Sony supports the HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ high dynamic range formats and automatically switches between SDR and HDR while maintaining each mode's unique control settings." "As with all OLED screens, off-center viewing produced no visible change in picture quality." "It outputs multichannel lossy audio from its optical digital output with Dolby Digital sources, but only stereo sound with DTS. The set's enhanced audio return channel (eARC) option, however, makes this limitation less significant than in the past." "Without a side-by-side look (I had to send the LG OLED back before reviewing the Sony) I 'm hard pressed to pick a winner. Both sets generated numerous "wows," but those might have been just a little louder with the Sony. That appears to have been the reaction of experts last summer when the A9E and LG's slightly less expensive OLED- 65C9PUA model were pitted against each other in a shootout held annually by retailer Value Electronics near New York City. I wasn't present at that event, but the Sony won—by a nose." Read more at https://www.soundandvision.com/conte...ra-hdtv-review |

I'm kind of on the fence between a 55" or 65" AG9 or the LGE9 series. I'm stepping up from a Panny VT50 65". I'm not a nut for smart features or even sound processing, it's all down to picture quality. Any pros and cons between the Sony and LG?
