Default Game of Thrones Completion

I see Game of Thrones Season 8 is available on iTunes now.

I already own Seasons 1-7 which are displayed with this icon:

If I buy Season 8 will it be included as part of the "folder"? Or show as a whole new TV Series?

Unfortunately, it will display as a separate season.

It will still show up under 'Game of Thrones' in your TV app, but you'll have to switch between the two sets when choosing an ep.

At least that bit has been improved slightly with the new tv app as before you have to select seasons then find the one you purchased.
Whereas now they’re in separate rows.
It’s a shame that when you buy a TV boxset that your purchase doesn't link to the individual seasons to the number of seasons you’ve purchased.

So the "Game of Thrones Season 1-7" icon will divide into two "folders" when selected?

Cool, thanks. I went ahead and purchased it (want to see E3 without the nasty HBO compression).

Here is what it looks like in iTunes:

And on iPhone:

Guess I'll see what it looks like on AppleTV when I get home

Thank for posting that Season 8 is available already.

I thought it would be a month or two wait at the least.

The season pass has been listed in the iTunes Store since episode 3 aired saying all episodes available 21st May.

I hadn't been on the US Store since before the season started and wouldn't have checked it for for another few weeks.

Neither have I, I was referring to the UK Store.
I’m guessing the Ireland store wasn’t the same then?

HBO has still made people that bought the season pass wait for months in the past seasons. Glad to know, albeit after the show ended, they finally stopped punishing the digital customers.

I’m pretty sure in the UK that Seasons 6 & 7 were available the day after the the last episode of those seasons were aired too, as I remember buying them shortly after watching watching on Sky Atlantic.

I don't believe it was to 'punish' digital customers, but to only match the home video release w/ DVD/Blu-ray.

Unlike standard broadcasters, HBO typically never sold their shows digitally day after airing.

Granted however that they should not be selling or advertising a 'season pass' for a show currently airing that they also won't be selling for potentially months.

the wait time was different in the usa, when we bought the season passes, it was kind of shocking the amount of wait time involved until the seasons posted and finally became watchable. after the current season ended, 2-6 months later the episodes would become viewable.

if you pirated the show, you could watch it immediately. if you bought the show digitally, hbo would make you wait for the physical releases to watch the digital copy you bought months before

On AppleTV it just says “HD”. It is a nice, crisp picture on the 82” screen. My receiver is 5.1 and all channels are lit.

Even 720p will show as HD. Looks like streaming is 1080p and download is 720p. For amount they are charging they should allow us to download in 1080p and DD+

You need to go into the iTunes Preferences, and in the "Downloads" tab enable the option "Download full-size HD videos".
