Default John Carpenter's Vampires (Collector's Edition) - September 24, 2019

https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=7155

Vampires (Collector's Edition) Blu-ray

Quote:
***NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT***

We add another John Carpenter film into our fold with his 1998 fang-baring, western-toned thriller JOHN CARPENTER’S VAMPIRES. Here are the early details we have a current time to share.

• National street date for North America (Region A) is Sept 24th.
• This will be presented as a Collector’s Edition and will come guaranteed with a slipcover in its first three months of release.
• The newly commissioned artwork pictured comes to us from Devon Whitehead (Trick r Treat, Valentine, Sleepealkers). This art will be front-facing and the reverse side of the wrap will feature the original theatrical artwork.
• Extras will be announced on a later date. However, we can confirm already that we have new interviews with Mr. Carpenter and Sandy King Carpenter.

Pre-orders on our site begin today which includes the Blu-ray plus a rolled 18” x 24” poster of the new art. The poster is exclusive to us and will be made at a limited-run of 500 pieces: https://www.shoutfactory.com/…/john

I already own the Twilight Time release and it's pretty solid overall but depends on the extras to this i might end up with this one too.

Yup. Don't like that artwork at all but at least it's not the floating head collage like so many of their other covers.

I doubt I'll be upgrading from my Twilight Time edition as it's not a Carpenter film I watch often.

Hmm. Used to own the Twilight Time, which I never opened and sold to buy the Indicator, which I still have not opened. Not sure if the new Carpenter interview will be enough to make me rebuy this, but it is tempting.

I don't have Twilight Time's blu as i dislike their limited edition bullshit but finally it's back.

I saw this in theaters when i was 17 and it's Carpenter's last good movie.

All they had to say was "new interview with Mr. Carpenter" to get me to put in a preorder!

I have the TT disc, but it looks like this might be worth the upgrade depending on the extras. Even if they use the same transfer, it’s already pretty solid. My TT disc has a small scratch that has caused the disc to skip once, so I’m glad there’s at least an easy option to replace it if I need to.

I have the Twilight Time disc and tried to watch it a few days ago and James Woods kills the film for me now. Easy pass.

Wow really?! He's almost the only real saving grace of the film for me. Another one of his usual electrifyingly charged performances IMHO.

I'll pass on this. The TT release is just fine for me.

New artwork is bad like the other John Carpenter SF rereleases IMO.

Agreed. I wish that he wasn't such a scummy person, but Christ, the man gives his all in nearly every role he's been given.

On another note, I'm ecstatic about this release. I avoid Twilight Time unless I have to, and missed out on a reasonably-priced version of the Indicator release. I'll be grabbing this immediately.

That is the single most horrid so- called art I've ever seen. For a movie with a very SPECIFIC color scheme, I don't see one single blip of that color anywhere in the art, that is so bad anyway it probably wouldn't matter.

Why does the cover or poster art have to match the color scheme of the film?

Yes. It looks pretty much exactly how one would expect it to look, coming from Scream Factory.

Funny how all their new cover art for horror titles looks the same. Imagine a record label putting out albums by 20 different bands, and the label insists on doing their own artwork for each album (“don’t worry, you can have your own cover art on the inside”), and each album art looks the same, no matter who the band is, or what their vision is. It’s inconceivable to me, yet that is what Scream Factory does.

I’ve liked him in other movies but I thought he was too much of a jerk to get behind in this one. He’s just not a convincing tough guy.

He certainly always fit the sleazy or shady guy more than the tough guy. Too skinny to be that tough. Even though one of the bullies in my high school was stupid skinny, he just looked mean and tough. Woods never had that build or look.
He had some great lines and improv in this one though, so I can look beyond that.

I would think not, or at least not for quite some time... this is kind of a minor Carpenter film and I think we’d see several of his other films on UHD before Vampires.

Unlikely - Sony has licensed this movie out to two other companies before releasing it themselves. It might get a 4K release in like 5-6 years, but I wouldn't expect it to show up anytime soon.

Another review with screenshots.

Same. Packed really well too, Shout Factory branded packing paper included (felt as thick as wallpaper, can't have been cheap). They've definitely upgraded their packaging.
