Flash Dance's "What a Feeling" is my choice for number one.
"Under The Sea" was not my favorite song from the Little Mermaid. |

Wasn't even nominated. Oscars have as bad of a track record in the best song category as the Grammys. I looked though all the nominees for the 80's and almost all of them are kind of bad. I think On the Road Again by Willie Nelson, 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton and Calling You from Bagdad Cafe are probably the best nominated.

These songs are so amazing and magical. I know they were huge radio hits that stood apart from the movies too. This is one of the hardest polls ever. Can't believe how terrible and forgettable the Oscar song winners have gotten in the 2000s. You can even look at the other Oscar nominees from the '80s and find many more classics. Eye of the Tiger! Footloose! Glory of Love! Power of Love! Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now from Mannequin! Ghostbusters! Little Shop of Horrors! Shakedown from Bev. Hills Cop II! 9 to 5! Not even one John Hughes movie on the list of nominees, but I'm pretty sure some of the great songs in his movies were originals. It was a golden age of music.
Had to vote for Flashdance... What a Feeling. Has the beat and the heart. |

Take My Breath Away is my favourite of the winners.
With The Best That You Can Do and Let the River Run taking second and third places. Lots of great nominated songs in this decade, but sadly the Disney win at the end of the decade signalled the beginning of the end... |

Tough choice. I went with "I Just Called to Say I Love You," but it could change at any point.
