What a stupid idea. Why pay someone off because they made a competing format and failed miserably?

Just be patient and let the market take care of things. HD DVD will be gone by late March.

All the Blu-ray supporters could suck it up and each buy a player then not spend 1 red cent on media. I'd drop $200 to let it end now.

1. Buy player.
2. Get 10 free movies for ebay sales.
3. Pull an Office Space in an open field on the player.

It says that if Toshiba were to get money from Sony then they would drop HD-DVD.

This is what I figured and always said T's strategy was once it was clear that the PS3-effect would give BD the permanent sales advantage.

Get a cut of royalties from BD... I sincerely hope they do not get it as, again, it sets a terrible precedent and encourages idiot companies with more money than sense to start pointless format wars.

I like this view. It is logical, and makes a lot of sense. I would not be surprised if this is accurate. It is the only way that Toshiba can save any face and secure a bargaining position with Sony/BDA.

Will not happen. Universal or Paramount will have made a move well before this even becomes an option before Christmas, rendering the whole thing moot (as if it wasn't already). Toshiba is just thinning stock. Have patience.

It's a way for Toshiba to save face; either cash or concessions on royalties and/or licensing for Blu-ray players, however modest. I wouldn't be surprised if the BDA is already in negotiations with Toshiba (and Universal and Paramount) on buyouts.

I have to say this, **** Toshiba and their greedy @$$ monkey from Universal & Paramount. Once they all turn blu I will not be supporting them for some time. I have to stick to my guns & boycott those Mother F'ers.

Shit, I think at this point they should be offering the BDA money to dig their asses out of this mess.

While they're at it, we could start paying $$ to the now defunct HD DVD campers to compensate for all the BS they slung on both sides of the fence.

God, I hate the universe sometimes. Toshiba should suck it up; Neither the BDA nor Sony should have to give handouts to further things. Cheapness will not prevail.

Why Sony?

Aren't the part of the Blu-ray group instead of the sole owner of the format? Isn't Panasonic part owner...
