Buy one version, get another one included

Just considering whether to buy my first-ever 4K film; Captain Marvel. Whether I will be able to tell the difference in picture quality with my not-perfect eyesight is a concern, but not why I am posting.

The version on Amazon comes with a standard BD version too. But... why? If I wanted the BD version I would save a tenner and buy it. It's not like I can sell it on or something. It's basically a redundant copy. Can't they just sell me the 4K version and maybe reduce the price a bit, or not?

This is not the first time I've seen this sort of thing. Previously they've bundled BD and DVD versions together. Again, I don't know why though.

Just seems completely pointless to me is all.

Pretty much standard practice, you can buy 4K alone only in Australia as far as I'm aware.

You actually could sell the BD if you wanted to, forums on here, AVForums or ebay for instance.

Anything is game, slipcovers, digital codes, unwanted discs.

Folks will buy anything

But then I'd have a gap in the box where the disc should be; and I think that would bother my mild OCD more

As mentioned, the Blu-ray contains the bonuses, and it is also a way for buyers who don’t have 4K TVs and UHD capability to buy one package and get both now so they can watch one and enjoy the UHD later when they do upgrade without having to buy the title again.

That works for me. I don’t have a 4K TV yet but I will eventually, do it makes perfect sense.

So I'd have to watch the 'inferior' version just to listen to the audio commentary!

Commentaries are usually included on the 4K disc.

I think the main reason is for people to transition from one format to another. People can stay with blu ray and a 1080p tv and buy ultra hd blu Ray's and still get use out of the product. They then can purchase a 4K tv and player when ready.

At some point I think that all blu Ray's and ultra blu Ray's will have another wave released that removes the added disc and advertising. This happening will depend on demand of course.

You mean the old pre-menu trailers? Hope they're skippable

i think Australia has a lot of UHD only releases. The Predator & Toy Story movies for example.

Disney's 4K only discs are awful to the point where I have been importing, special features are lacking.
