Scarface Blu-ray (1932)

For those unaware, “Scarface” will be released on Blu as a part of the Limited Edition UHD of De Palma’s remake. No word yet on an individual release

My understanding is a 4K scan and master was created a while back for this film.

What a monstrosity of set that is. Hopefully the film gets a standalone release eventually too.

That's what I am banking on. If not I will giveaway the standard edition I ordered to some lucky soul. The listing on this site has the standard release as 3 disc so hopefully that is true.

What’s the Universal standard policy for blu ray upgrades when they release UHD? Can we expect the blu ray of the DePalma SCARFACE included on the set to be a newly authored disc from the new restoration? Or just a repackaging of the old blu ray?

In this case they are doing new separate BD and DVD releases as well, so I would think this new remaster will be on those releases, too.

Usually, the Blu included on the UHD is an older release. However, for “Scarface” he back of the regular Blu reads “newly remastered” and lists a new extra that wasn’t on the old release:

A nice option could be an ‘upgrade’ of the steelbook version that included this version (albeit on DVD). Surprised Universal has seemed to bury the earlier version so much, although The Thing from Another World (Warner Archive) only just made it to Blu.

^I own that release, and would love to own the original film on BD because the transfer was very old, and the audio was especially very muffled. I also far prefer it over DePalma's remake (as much as I love DePalma's other work, this felt more like an Oliver Stone film to me. I forget DePalma even directed it).

I assume we'll get some kind of standalone at some point. No chance will I be getting that expensive collector's set.

The 1932 Scarface should be on the standard 4K release as well. This deluxe edition only seems to have the globe in addition to the regular set.

That's because the elements for The Thing are lost and it took WB a whole to properly restore the versions they had available. The wait had nothing to do with it being the "earlier version."

Anyways, this is one of my top five films of all time, do day 1 for the 4K.

This thread is to discuss the 1932 version that is a bonus disc in the 4K bonus set of the 1983 version.

Would definitely re-buy for a remastered presentation of the De Palma film as well as the original in proper HD.

Just NOT in that awful packaging.

Wasn't there a member of these forums with Paul Muni as Tony Camonte as his profile picture (which he put a Santa hat on during Christmas), and his signature said his most wanted Blu-ray was Scarface (1932)? Well, his release is here...

I gotta say, every box set iteration for this film--from the snakeskin DVD box set, to the humidor Blu-ray, and now, to the statued 4K set--has been very gaudy, tacky, and over-the-top... exactly how Tony Montana likes it.
