Default iTunes seems to be forcing me to download a film if I want to purchase it

Is anyone having this issue? It seems that iTunes is forcing me to download a film I want to purchase onto my iPAd, but I don’t want to do that at the moment.

I’ve never had this issue before.

What is the specific sequence that happens and the wording used?

Is this something you bought. You may have accidentally hit download now by accident. Happened to me once or twice.
Or if not do you have it set to download all purchases somewhere in your settings.

It happened to me with Justice League vs. The Fatal Five; every time I started Up iTunes on my laptop, it would forcibly try downloading the movie... every single time! I had to keep stopping and deleting it every time I opened iTunes!

In the end I just downloaded it and then deleted it, but a byproduct of this bug (or whatever it is) is it has unfortunately created three versions of the same movie in my laptop iTunes library - one real file and two phantom files that I just can’t delete.

Were you deleing the downloading movie in the download dropbox or in the iTunes Media folder?

As far as I remember the only way to remove an incomplete download is to delete it in the Media folder.

I had such phantom files too. Pain to get rid of.

I was deleting in the download drop box. Having to do that every time I opened iTunes was a pain in the bum, so I downloaded it and deleted the film then in the iTunes library.

Do you know what caused these phantom files MOTF? Have you ever got rid of them?

It automatically starts to download because you set in settings to automatically download purchases made on other devices. If you have that turned on, it will try to download it as long as you keep deleting it during download. You have to let it finish and then in setting adjust for the future.

I’m afraid this isn’t the remedy. I have always had this option unticked and ahead of my reply here, I double-checked and it remains unticked. It’s an odd one for sure!

It’s no real issue, I only infrequently use iTunes on my laptop.

To permanently stop a download you have to delete I in the media folder.

The phantom movies - I bought a couple of movies and then regretted it a few minutes later so I requested a refund. I then started downloading some movies to put on hard drive and accidentally selected the ones I got the refund for - I assumed they were already gone. I paused the downloads but didn't delete them. When Apple eventually refunded me the movies remained in my library - unplayable and undeletable. A few weeks later I moved my music folder to a new hard drive, changed the location in iTunes preferences and the phantom were gone.
