Fatale | Hilary Swank Thriller

Lionsgate has acquired North American and key foreign territories to Deon Taylor’s psychological thriller Fatale starring two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank, Michael Ealy, Mike Colter, and Tyrin Turner.

Fatale centers on a married man who finds himself living a nightmare as he is relentlessly compromised, out-witted and morally manipulated by a mysterious woman with whom he had a wild one-night stand. How far will he go to save his marriage from his mistake?

Written and produced by David Loughery (The Intruder, Lakeview Terrace, Obsessed), the film is produced by Taylor’s Hidden Empire Film Group partner Roxanne Taylor and is executive produced by partner Robert F. Smith. Time-time Oscar nominee Dante Spinotti (L.A. Confidential, Heat) served as DP, marking his third collaboration with Taylor on Fatale. Deadline exclusively announced Fatale last August.

Taylor was behind this past summer’s The Intruder, which grossed $37M WW off an $8M net cost before P&A.

“We previously acquired Deon’s thriller Traffik, and when Damon Wolf came to Lionsgate on the heels of working with Deon, he mentioned we should keep our eye on Fatale,” said Jason Constantine, Lionsgate’s President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions. “He could not have been more right. We are all big fans of Deon and are thrilled to have him back at Lionsgate. This film has the heat and erotic appeal of relationship-gone-wrong thrillers like Unfaithful, Fatal Attraction or Basic Insinct. Deon Taylor has delivered a morally complex and outstanding character-driven thriller with riveting performances by Hilary Swank and Michael Ealy.”

Said Taylor: “Damon and I had the chance to work together on The Intruder, and like a character from this new movie, he became almost obsessed with this project. I can feel that energy and passion with the Lionsgate team, and I’m excited to be working with Joe, and to be reunited with Damon, Jason and Eda and the whole entire Lionsgate film group.”

Constantine and Eda Kowan negotiated the rights to Fatale. Endeavor Content and Glen Mastroberte of Latham & Watkins negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers and is representing international sales.

Next up for Taylor is the Screen Gems thriller Black and Blue, starring Oscar nominee Naomie Harris, Frank Grillo, Tyrese Gibson and Mike Colter. Written by Peter A. Dowling, the pic follows a rookie African-American female cop who stumbles upon corrupt officers who are murdering a drug dealer, an incident captured by her body cam.

Still remember seeing Million Dollar Baby in the theater with my late mother and being blown away, as was she. She's always worth seeing.

I found it diverting in a B-minus sort of way. Then again, I saw it for free thanks to my Starpass card, so there's that. Hilary Swank is aging very nicely...

Saw this last night on BR. It held my interest to the end. I liked Swank as the creepy, manipulative detective. Overall the performances were satisfactory to good. Definitely some things I didn't like which kept a so-so movie from being really good.

These were not 20 year-olds, so the music at the club was too loud and out of place for that age group. Made it tough to hear the dialogue.

The cousins were caricatures of a street thug. You could see the rookie mistake coming a mile away.

This had an R rating but all these folks wore an awful lot of clothes while having sex. Seemed very out of place. At one point I couldn't figure out how he was doing it with her pants on and so close to her waist.

Playing the race card on social justice seemed shoehorned in. None of the plot had anything to do about anyone's race so it's inclusion was out of left field.

Left a major plot point with no conclusion. Just kind of forgot about it.

Interesting for a one time watch since I'm struggling to keep my queue full. Nothing I would need to revisit. 3/5

Damn, that is a fancy house Ealy was living in. I like that rotating platform in his driveway. I have never seen that before.
