It's over! Digital Playground drops HD-DVD!

Hollywood (CA) - HD DVD is losing support left and right, this time from the adult film studio Digital Playground.


About a couple dozen titles were released on HD DVD from the studio, making it the leader in high-def adult entertainment. The lucrative industry has been deemed one of the most important factors in determining the success of a new format.

The fact that HD DVD had the adult film industry on its side was seen as a big plus for it, especially because Sony was purposefully not allowing any such titles to be printed on Blu-ray Discs.

However, Sony had a change of heart, and allowed Digital Playground to start releasing its titles on BD last year. Because of the dominant force Blu-ray has in the format war, the studio has chosen to drop HD DVD support entirely, reports German publication Heise.

Digital Playground joins Warner Bros, New Line, and HBO as recent converts to Blu-ray exclusivity. HD DVD is left with just Universal, a founding member of the format, and Paramount, which reportedly received huge monetary incentives to move away from Blu-ray.

And they said p0rn will decide the format war! HA! P0rn is following the dominate format after choosing the wrong one. They changed cause they saw that Blu sells better already. Blu already won, and NOW they realize it.

Media reports have quoted adult-film directors and producers accusing Sony of pressuring others not to manufacture Blu-ray discs with adult content or share technology with the porn industry. The result, according to reports, has been a migration by adult filmmakers toward HD DVD, a competing format.

Sony dismissed the claims saying it has no control over the licensing of Blu-ray, and has no problem with the adult industry using the format. "There's no prohibition against adult content," Lisa Gephardt, a spokeswoman for Sony Corp. of America, said. "We don't tell people how they can use the licenses they get from the Blu-ray Disc Association."

Indeed, the BDA, which handles all licensing for Blu-ray technology, said in a statement that the group is "an open organization that welcomes the participation of all companies interested in using and supporting the format, including those that represent the full spectrum of genres in the content industry."

It was nice for a change for the adult industry NOT to decide the winning format.

I don't see adult titles being a major factor ever compared to what S DVD did with this. The world has changed, it's called the internet and to many options available.

Porn won't have the affect on this dispute as it did in the Beta/VHS war. These days porn is everywhere, and free at that. Back in the day you had to get it another way and VHS was it.

I check mu local xxx shop the other day they had some Blu ray in stock at 75.99 a pop they also had more HDdvd in stock at 45.99 a pop.
