Default Bootlegged Blu-rays being sold on Ebay

Hello, I apologize if this thread is not posted in the right place but I just wanted to express my feelings on bootlegged blu-rays being sold on Ebay. I am extremely upset by the flood of sellers selling fake copies of OOP movies on ebay... Ive been wanted to pick up the OOP Dogma blu-ray, but am so scared to purchase due to this issue. There is one seller in particular who has continually sold these bootlegged copies of movies, including having Dogma on his current sell list along with things like "The Hitcher" "Kenny & Co" and in the past things like "Dawn of the Dead" and "Dead Alive". I first became aware of this seller when I purchased the original "Dawn of the Dead" to see the artwork had a really fishy look to it, and looked at the disc itself which confirmed that it had obviously been faked due to the black color on the side that the player reads. This particular seller located in Brazil but selling to the U.S. has actually had many different accounts (Im assuming due to Ebay figuring out their scheme) and I am sick of seeing them flooding the marketplace with bootlegs.. so I would like if anyone could help me to get their account removed, the username they are currently selling under is: "m.fergar0"

Ive actually just reported their listing of "Dogma" to be a bootleg, and checking back on the listing it has actually been removed (not sure if by the seller or ebay) and I would like help on getting their account removed all together.

Anyways, would love your thoughts on this topic and any experiences you guys have had with bootlegged blu's. Thanks!

Some good guidelines to follow:

Anything that seems to good to be true usually is

Anyone who has multiple copies of a film, especially a hard to find one, is probably selling a bootleg.

Try to only buy from those that show actual pictures of the product, and not jut a stock picture

Obviously don't buy anything form China, unless it's an Asian export (but still follow due diligence)

It's not such a big deal. BD-Rs are easily recognizable, whereas pirated CDs and DVDs can be indistinguishable from the real thing. Buy from longtime sellers with good feedback and you'll be fine. If the price of a desirable title is low and if they've sold more than one of the same title, it's probably a pirated copy.

There are bootleg pressed Blu-rays as well, especially from a certain Iberian Peninsular country

I thought developed countries don’t produce pirated goods? I guess pirated products are not exclusively a “Third world problem”.

The problem is, the seller I am specifically mentioning doesnt use stock photos, has good feedback (except for one person who left feedback advising the seller is selling bootleggs) and is not selling at low prices that seem "too good to be true". There is also another user selling "Dogma" as well, that is selling at OOP prices and has many many copies of the movie. Bootleggers seem well aware of the warning signs that the copies are fake and are listing their items accordingly... its only when you recieve the copy and look at the disc & artwork quality/print stock to see youve been burned.

Even more than being upset at recieving a bootleg, im upset about the marketplace being flooded with these fake blu's.

The problem seems to be most prevalent with the most common/popular OOP blu-rays.

Look at the bottom of the disc. If it's blue in color, then it's a fake.

I've found that most of the Bootlegs I've encountered come from DIY'ers in Brazil personally. I'd also avoid anything from "Russian Federation" as well.

Ebay won't do anything, there's a seller selling thousands and thousands of clearly fake DVDs here but they have been up for years (Saw them in a local shopping center once).

I've never seen a Blue bottomed BD-R. DVD-R yes, not BD-R though. Silver, Black, Gold, are BD-R's often. More telling than the color however is if you can actually see the data circles on the bottom of the disc.

If eBay won't do anything, someone should call the FBI. I mean, they are supposed to investigate video piracy and bootleging

I cannot find anybody by that username at the moment, do you have a link to any of his listings?

Obviously, everyone should be diligent when shopping on eBay and if they wind up with a bootleg or illegal copy, report it and submit the appropriate feedback.

Those warnings are probably just to scare you. Obviously they don't give a crap if these sellers have been getting away with it for so many years.

I almost never, ever make a purchase on eBay if the seller uses simply a stock photo for their listing. Works every time, at least for me. Whether it's an OOP or new release disc, analyzing the photos carefully, for the most part, is what has personally helped me get authentic stuff on eBay.
