Default Rumor Mill: Another Price Drop? *sigh*

Ugh!! Another speculation for the PS3. This might seem pretty cool for you guys, but right now it is just a rumor.

Speculation has it that the Playstation 3 40gb model will drop to $279.99. Nothing is concrete for now, but if it is true then umm......"hooray"?!

Sorry if I am not being enthusiastic about this. I am already content with paying $499.99 for the PS3. But then again, this is a good way to get more people into the system.

Stay tuned.

349 is the biggest drop we would see for a while IMO, and it wont happen for a while. PS3 is still selling very well.

Ditto, it wouldn't make sense to drop the price of the PS3 so much when it's selling very well. A matter of fact, I wouldn't expect to see a price drop till the summer at the earliest.

Though it may not make sense to some, I personally can't wait for a price drop.

I think if Toshiba dropped the price then Sony will soon follow drop the price quickly to $280/$380 for PS3 40GB/80GB. Hopefully, all the older BD Player standalone will also drop $100-$200 and phase out due to lack of Final Standard Profile 2.0. So the newer BD Player Standalone will replace the older ones with the FSP 3.0.

Profile 2.0 is not final. 1.1 is the FINAL profile for Blu-Ray, 2.0 is 100% Optional.

It would not make sense to drop the price of the PS3. Its selling well at the current price and is Profile 2.0 compliant with FW upgrade.

If the BDA CEs were going to drop the price on any players it would be the left over stock of the first generaly standalones. But MaxPower has already said this is unlikely to happen either.

I think you are more likely to see free BD players with certain model LCDs and Plasmas.

EXACTLY!!!!!

When I heard this, it didn't impress me at all. The PS3 is selling well. VERY well, to be exact. I just don't see the reason why Sony (if this is true) would drop the price to $299.99.

This is from MY source.

Here.

Nothing concrete, and there is no plausible link. As stated, I'll keep y'all posted.

That's why when I bought my PS3 last November (2006) I bought the BB PRP. That way when mine breaks later this year (and it will ), I will get the full purchase price plus tax back in store credit, buy the new model at the new price, and then have $300 plus to spend on other stuff!

Did I stated that this is true?

If I did, show where I stated that, so I don't continue on with this.
